Default Alright question: How do you all trailer your bikes?

I have a trailer and for the first few times I have been using ratchet straps and running them over the clip ons and then back down to the hook on the trailer.

THis means I have to put a towel or something on the fairing where the strap hits the fairing. What is the solution to this? I keep hearing people talking about soft straps. The dirt bike is a **** ton easier. I just hook it on to the lower part of the handle bars and then onto the truck with pull straps and it doesn't rub anywhere.

Because I am a visual person anyone have a picture of how this works? YOu would think that Knee Draggers would SHOW it in use:

http://www.kneedraggers.com/de....html

This is essentially what I have been doing:

http://www.kneedraggers.com/de....html

Also do you all use the ractheting straps with that or do you use the pull straps that I typically use with my dirt bike?

Ratcheting, ask .paul about pull strap success

You don't necessarily have to go over the clip-ons. I'd go one on each clip-on and each side of my subframe and you should be straight.

Correct, but you don't configure it any differently for ratcheting straps

I use soft ties (basically a loop) around the lower triples. I also use cam-buckle type tiedowns.

I used to use the Canyon Dancer harness all the time, but I always wound up getting a stuck throttle (the bar grip would get stuck against the clip-on). I haven't had a problem with the triples-mounting since.

I also use a soft tie around the subframe to hold the back of the bike down.

brandon - those are the things I was telling you about. the ratchet straps are fine as long as it's the cam buckle type. the others I don't really trust even though we used them when we trailered stuff down to Shady Valley, TN. Also you can get extension loops that work great around the swingarm if you feel the need to strap the rear as well

They work great, unless you're hauling two bikes. I dont like the ratchet tie downs because they take too damn long. The regular ones have been working fine for me for years.

has your windscreen ever ripped off?

I haul two bikes in my truck no problemo, both facing forward. Eye hook in the middle of the bed.

I use these http://www.kneedraggers.com/de....html
along with ratchet tie downs.

I have taken the eye hook out of my bed, because it interferes with hauling other stuff. This one is not mine, but I have built a rig similiar to this. Works great.

huh... I've never heard of anyone having a windscreen ripped off. I know several people who've done 2 bikes like that too. a simple solution if you have the room is to take off the front fairing or windscreen for the trip. or just put a cover over it

Usually its just me and a buddy so pushing the bike up the ramp backwards is a PITA. So when I have 2 bikes I just tie it down normally with a couple of towels to cover up the bikes.

We either ride our bikes up backwards ( we have reverse on or CBR600RR's) or we do a stoppie 180 in the bed of the truck, its hard, but we do it alot.

Lame. I ride up the front of the truck and stoppie the bike just as it passes the cab.

I trailored a bike for the first time a few weeks ago when I was taking it to Memphis to sell it...it was a LOT easier than I thought and worked very well
