Theft possibly avoided
I'm located in the greater Toronto Area and this story took place at 11pm at night.
So I went out last night to grab my laptop outta my car and as soon as I opened the garage a blue integra (didn't catch the license plate) spun its tires right infront of my house and bolted. Now my street is a dead end so I just stood on my driveway and he eventually came back very quick. I just stood there and watched.
Moral of the story - Keep the R in garage at all times.
If theif is reading this post - My daddies 12 gauge is now sitting somewhere very convenient.
If I see him around again I will make sure to get his plate number for all to see. I will report to the cops, but I am sure they will do f*$@ all as they always do.

This has happened at my house a few times... Cars just sitting out front, scoping things out.
One guy pulled in my driveway and sat behind my garage door. My brother and I saw this from the front porch, (We're giants, the guy would have been nuts to stick around) and went outside to confront the guy, he bounced quickly. We took off sprinting the front way to the front of the developement (We're both athletic, we got there before him) got there just in time to step in front of his Jeep, he said he was delivering lost luggage from the Airport. I asked where's the luggage? He hit the gas and took off. The Address he made up (That he said he was delivering to), doesn't even exist.
There's a reason I leave my garage door un-oiled (VERY loud, my neighbors four doors down know when I'm opening the door, haha), and I take proper steps to make it that much harder for anyone who doesn't know any better, to actually start the car. Not to mention I sleep with quite a few weapons at the side of my bed at ALL times... So the day I hear that door creek in the middle of the night... Will be the same day I get booked for murder.

Werd. I'm hours away from Toronto, but I'm still local to you in a highly populated area. Keep the R in the garage and invest in a deadbolt for your garage like me. I don't know if you store your R for the winter, but when I do I store it without seats, rims, and a ton of other missing parts. I suggest that if you do have a place to store it, do so now and make it impossible for thieves to take without hauling it on a flatbed. The theives know where your car is now so be on high alert. Start getting creative.
And never underestimate the power of boomerang. If you own an R in the city, that's something you can't be without.
I hope for your sake that's the last you'll see them.

I feel sorry for you guys that have to store your cars this time of year... It's been 70 degrees this week in Wilmington... It never really gets cold around here, it kind of sucks being warm year round.

Well aren't you the lucky one.
Yeah ... my car is stored for 6 months of the year. As soon as the cold weather starts coming in, the city dumps salt all over the roads to prevent ice buildup. My car has never seen salt and I hope to keep it that way.
In another month we'll have days in the -15 to -25 Celsius range. Not looking forward to the cold. but I am really looking forward to snowboarding season!!!

Good job on catching the thief in action, but you should have been prepared when he had to come back your way. Maybe back out a car and block the road, then take the plate number when he stops or something.

Ugh, I really dislike shooting shotguns with pistol grips. I see shotguns as shoulder weapons, but maybe that's 'cause I'm not all that accurate shooting from the hip. And sawing off the barrel is a legal no-no. I'd rather not get sent to prison for defending my property with an illegal weapon. An 18" barrel is short enough.
But as soon as I can afford to, I'm sending my fingerprints and $200 to the ATF so I can legally own one of these:

I like shooting my pistol grip Mossberg pump gun. I just had to get used to holding the fore-end tighter than the pistol grip end. And yeah, you definitely want your weapon, and yourself (license if necessary) be fully in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Because if anything is illegal, then you're going to jail, especially in a "blue state" NY FTL. It doesn't matter if you save a bus-load of school chillins from an escaped mass-murderer, you're going to jail.
I'd love to have, or even just shoot a Thompson someday
This is my "thieves-$h!t-your-pants-now" gun....

Nice D'eagle!
For pistols I really like 1911s. But nothing quite has that "thieves, **** your pants" effect like a magnum.
I think NY may be one of the few states that does not allow private ownership of machine guns, so if you want a Thompson you won't be able to have it there. But they are available for around $10-20K. I don't know about the rest of this board, but I'd take a Thompson over a K-series swap anyday!
