Default Overheating?

Hey guys, need some insight.

So Im getting ready to boost my car, 1994 Honda Civic Si coupe (in Canada) And I noticed ever since I mounted my FMIC. My Temperature gauge tends to rise often above the 1/2 way mark and at WOT it will rise almost to H. Unless I turn my heat on full.

Finding this odd, I took the FMIC off, and drove around same weather conditions etc... And the car was fine, temp gauge where it suppost to be.

Im running a 2" dual core Aluminum rad with Slim fan.

Now im thinking since my intercooler CORE length itself is 30" wide it fills up my whole front grill on my OEM bumper.

Im thinking my Radiator isn't getting enough air to cool itself down now.

Anyone have any tricks or ideas to work around this?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Travis

Do you have the fan mounted the right way (i.e. sucking in colder air instead of pushing hot air from the bay to the radiator? I have seen this happen before.

Wire up your fan to be on all the time.

djtrini........if you don't even have the turbo on yet, maybe there is something bigger wrong? A turbo system is going to generate A LOT more heat!!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. Yes it is your intercooler blocking the air to your radiator.

I even have my fan wired to run all the time so that isn't going to solve your problem either.

I used to have a fluidyne but it fuked up so right now I'm rocking the OEM civic half size rad. I plan on getting another fluidyne and a better fan right now I got one from vatozone thats like 650 CFM. I like this one from perma cool, part number prm-19008 on summit. It seems to have the best CFM out of all the 12 inch fans I can find.

I even have an external oil cooler and my water temps have never gotten above halfway, but i've seen 230F oil temps just cruising on the highway/daily driving.

I have not installed yet but will also header wrap the turbo mani and I got a turbo blanket to put around the turbo. Downpipe is already header wrapped. Cutting down on underhood temps would probably also help our situation.

My last ditch effort will be a vented hood, not a CF one but diy, like this:

hey guys.

Turbo is not installed at the moment. I noticed today the car temp was correct all the time. Stock fan isn't an option as I no longer have one to use.

I know it can't be the engine, as i've had it running all motor to break in the engine for about 5000km now with zero overheating issues.
Only thing that has changed recently was the mounting of my intercooler.

On a Side note, I have a Jackson racing lower temp thermostat, and the Mugen Thermo switch as well.

Before mounting my intercooler, I did notice that my rad fan would be on constantly which I didn't mind at all. Just took a while for the car to get warm on some colder mornings.

Since I have mounted the intercooler. The Rad fan does not kick in as often as it used too.

Ohh and I have the Rad fan set up to Pull the air into the engine bay. Should I switch it up to push it out?

Im running a 10" slim fan, bought from one of the vendors here on HT.

here's a pic of the car with the intercooler mounted:

Your guys help and input is greatly appreciated.

djtrini....yea, yours looks exactly like mine, covering the whole grill area. I like how you kept the grill still. I did too, you wouldn't believe how many people think my car is N/A until they get smoked and hear the BOV.

Your 10 inch fan isn't going to cut it. Fans go by CFM, and you want the most you can get, the one I posted above about is like 1650 cfm, your lucky if yours is 600 cfm.

A puller fan will always work better than a pusher fan, but if space is a problem you gotta do wat you gotta do, both my fans are pusher due to space.

Like I also said earlier, I haven't had my temp gauge go past halfway, and I daily drive 17psi but it does get pretty freakin hot!

Do you think possibly you have some air in your cooling system still? Did you run the heater on full blast when you bleed the system? Did you bleed it for like 20 minutes? It takes a while!

10" - 1400cfm Thats the slim fan that I have in the car. Purchased from HT vendor Infinte auto.
The fan pulls hard when it comes on.

Im going to see if there is any air in the system see if theres any change.

When I had the new motor put in, I ran the car for almost an hour to bleed the system.

Don't do that as your just masking another real problem with your cooling system.

Agreed I have a similar problem with my EG B16A2 Turbo. With the intercooler fitted I notice the fan(standard) kicks in after a short amount of driving.

Without the intercooler on (running without a turbo) the fan hardly kicks in at all, infact it will only kick in when sat in traffic. My temp gauge never goes over halfway though. It must be the intercooler causing a restriction in my case.Any body else have the same symptoms?? Sorry I couldn't be of any better help
