Unfortunately for you, you do not read well or have a good memory.
Nopi and NOPI Motorsports are 2 seperate companies. You dont buy parts from NOPI Motorsports. And you don't go to the NOPI stores to race.
We never had the Sportsman race just to keep the south happy. At that time we were trying a new track, we already had events in Moroso and Bradenton those years.

Umm Let's see...
Valdosta - Small market - hard to break even on gate
Moroso - 4 Rain-outs - Big loss any way you put it....Bad track too.
Rockingham- Small market - hard to break even on gate
Bristol - Kick out due to circumstances beyond our control.
Boy I wish you were running NOPI. You would have us all unemployed in no time.
So much knowledge..........

im not 'hating' by any means, but since you're on H-T to give your views, id like to know some things for a constructive debate
valdosta=small market, yes
but didnt you know that before you rented the track??
still you're drawing off jax (hour and a half away), valdosta, tallahassee(hour 20 min away), savannah, perry... thats a whole lot of people(~2million) within 2 hours of the track
i really wish you would come back to SGMP
just for discussion, do you think having the rockingham event a week after HIN Charlotte and a week after IHRA(if i remember correctly) at rockingham affected numbers at all???
sucks about the cops in bristol, but people seemed to come regardless
heck, HIN LA draws 35k and people get their cars jacked in the parking lot, and the police confiscate show cars rolling out of the venue, but people still come

We went to Valdosta because we wanted a drag race close to home and a lot of the Racers are from the SE. Reynold's facility wouldn't do and Valdosta's facility was new and really awesome. We hoped to pull from the cities you mentioned and ran an ad campaign in each city. It just didn't do what we had hoped. We could do it again and no doubt it would be bigger each year but with only 8 Race event, we decided on trying larger market areas.
Rockingham wasn't even on the schedule for 05 until we got booted from Bristol. We were going to try to steer the Bristol crowd to the Rockingham event and have the NOPI SE NATIONALS Car Show there (always a big crowd). Then once we got together with our old partner for the SE MINI TRUCKING NATIONALS and added the Knoxville car show event..It was too late to cancel the Rockingham event. I don't think HIN or the IHRA is a real factor in our turnout. They are everywhere we go and we still get the crowds in most places.
Thanks for your concerns...

We will be having a Los Angeles show this year. It's a drifting and car show event. If it goes well for us, you can bet than we will be back to LA and probably try a Drag event in 2008.

thank you for your response
i just know personally i didnt go to rockingham b/c i had already dragged a car to HIN and didnt want to incur that expense twice
i didnt think spectator count in valdosta was all that great, but glenn came on here after the event and said that racer count was low, but spectator count was good
i dont know what the ndra needs to break even so my opinion of good spectator counts are probably different than the sanctioning body
sgmp is a GREAT track, we go there regularly... but it sounds like the TBD event 8 in the Southeast wont be valdosta?
would love to see you back close to home, cant blame someone for wanting a shorter drive

How will this show you whether or not a drag event would do well? I have been around the scene for a while, and when I first got into the import scene I used to attend car shows. But I haven't been to one lately unless it was actually at a drag event.
A drift event is a different culture and so are show events.
The only way you will know whether or not a drag event would be profitable is to have a drag event. Maybe get a few other partners so that your investment is kept to a minimum in case the event doesn't do as well as anticipated.
Another reason some events may not be selling out is the cost to actually attend the event.
I understand for there to be payouts there has to be a certain cost associated with the event. But when you have guys using every scrap of their checks in order to get parts for their car that $65 bucks is a big hit in the pocket. Plus I think that the target audience is getting younger which usually equates to less money in the pocket as some are high school students, college students, no job, part time job, or working at a job that doesn't pay so well. Attending one event for some people as a spectator at current prices require some people to save for a couple of months for reasons I listed below and thats' for both the racer and spectator.
Depending on where the individual is coming from hotel, gas, entrance and race fees, food, and misc items. That last $XX odd dollars makes it not look as attractive.
Sure you can say you need to pay to play but less people seem to want to play at events. Basically put if you lower the prices you might have more people attend.
If you are having 50 people show up paying $60 buck for a total of $3000
or 100 people show up paying $30 for a total of $3000 what would be the difference. Plus more advertisement.

$65 includes 2 weekend passes and show participation. That's $32.50 per person per weekend. or $16.25 a day per person. We feel that's a fair price for our event. I know some will agree and some will not agree. Thanks for the input.

Sorry to say but I haven't been to an event where it has cost just a little over $15 dollars a day in a while.
$65 for 2 people I haven't seen this ever. I may be confusing your events will I'm pretty sure that I am since NOPI doesn't come to CALI. But for basically $30 dollars a weekend that would be a decent price but I honestly think it is $65 per person.

I see there is a drift/show in Pittsburgh(Its not pittsburg) Why no race? Pittsburgh Raceway Park is a great facilty since its under new owners. Make sure the nopi crew goes to Primanti's! Ill be living back in Pittsburgh by then.
