Default car stalling problem, part 3

I first started having problems with my car at an autocross last October, after I spun out in the second turn, here is a video of what happened, and the noise it started making:https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1397932, a few months later it starting choking out and almost stalling when the throttle was pushed in at low RPM:https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1544847, I loosened up my throttle cable and the problem went away for several months. Now it has come back even worse than ever. It is dying at stoplights, and takes forever to start back up, changed the fuel filter, and it ran great for one day and started the same thing.
My friend, who is a Tech at Honda now has the car and is trying to find the cause of the problem. Today he called and told me that when the car starts to stall (it also makes the same sound as video in the first post), the motor starts turning backwards !
Has anybody ever heard of anything like this before, we are going to start tearing into the motor tomorrow and are looking for any ideas. The only thing the diognostics is telling them is that it is running really lean when the problem starts. Crazy S$$T...

Jumped a tooth or two on the timing belt, on one of the cams?

Too much cam overlap, and the ECU will think it's lean. Does the exhaust smell like gas at idle? Do the spark plugs look fouled after idling? Just a thought. It would make sense that cams way off would make the ECU think it's lean because the O2 sensor can see clean air.

I dont know, all the sensors read good, its the running backwards that has them all freaked out. It stumbles, drops down to about 50 RPM then starts rotating backwards for 4 or 5 seconds then dies.

check the coil, ignitor and the cap and rotor. had a very similar thing happen to me a couple months back. the veh would stall out and act like it was not getting fuel.

The cap, rotor, and coil had to be replaced. Hope this helps

Found out today that when this happens, the timing retards back to TDC, instead of advancing like it should when the throttle is pushed.
Ordered a new distributor tonight, guess I'll see if that fixes the problem.

So far so good after putting the Distributor King unit on. The latest theory is a bad igniter.
