Default 98 V-6 ATF fluid change question

I don't have a helms and just wanted to be sure, the ATF Fluid fill bolt (on top of the tranny) the threads are not reverse are they? It's either that or that thing is really on there tight.

Thanks in Advance~!

There's a fluid fill bolt? Huh? Doesnt Honda usually just put an AT dipstick and keeps it simple? Did they change that for the 6th gen or something?

Here's the bolt of which I speak, it's kinda gold colored with a purple mark on it.

That is your fill plug. It's just a standard thread, but they are usually pretty tight. Use a 17mm socket, an extension and a breaker bar.

Usually, but on the newer V6s you can't fill through it.

I know I just didn't want to go to the store, given I didn't have a car to drive, Besides it's Mom's car, thanks for the info, it took the breaker bar to get it off, crazy tight.

I wonder how long it would take to actually flush out ALL the old fluid, given it takes 3 quarts to refill it but the book says that there is a bit over 6 quarts in there... I'm going to keep on draining and refilling till it's all clear.

She drives constantly in Philly, stop and go. Plus the fluid gets pretty dark pretty fast, and the 30K is if you are not in "harsh" conditions, and given how touchy Honda Automatics are, it can't hurt.

i have a question. how the hell do you drain the atf out?

i have a integra and cant seem to find the drain bolt.

someone said it was the bolt with a square hole in it, but that thing is too tight to remove.

the independent auto garage drained the fluid in a different way. and i want to know how they did it with out jacking up the car.

its going to be tight...

1. get a helms manual for your car
2. work out
3. try again

On the Accord it is the recessed bolt. it's on there REALLY tight, and it is threaded like any other bolt, i.e. clockwise to tighten counter to untighten. It is on there REALLY tight. Just remember that draining it only drains some of it out a substantial amount is still left in the torque converter and other parts of the tranny, so if you want a full flush, you'll need to have it hooked up to a machine, or just change your fluid drive a while and do it again... and again... and maybe one more time.

Honda's are interesting becuase if you do change it you can actually feel the change in how the car shifts. I would strongly recommend changing it, it's so easy and it's a lot cheaper than a rebuild. Just my .02
