Default MSD quality strikes again.............

I have been having an ongoing problem that pops up from time to time. Well my car would randomly jsut turn its self off while just driving down the road. This started in the summer. Well I checked my main relay, all connections were good no dry sockets or anything. So I traced the path of the power and removed my car alarm, I thought the alarm was going out and just randomly disabled the car. Well I did that and everything was fine untill this morning. Driving to work my car dies, no check engine lights nothing. So i costed off the side of the road. jumped out and checked everything, looked at my batters and there was a little build up on the post but nothing bad so i then though about main relay again. I was ble to sart the car and drive for 15-30 sec then bam it turns off again. SO not i am like fudge it, Call AAA and then call my work and tell them i can;t make it today. Once i get home from hanging out with the redneck AAA guy I source a new main relay from honda. I go get one and then also stop and pick up a new battery for the car, get home and install the battery and it turns over with a qucikness and fires up. Then after about a min it turns itself off with no checkengine lights. So I then put in the new relay. Fires right up idles for 10 min, so i was like problem solved. Put car into gear and then it dies. But this time with a checkengine light. Code 15 --Ignition Output Signal missing or defective ignition output signal. At this point i an grabing the gas can and a lighter.
I pull of MSD dizzy and check that out, looks to be in good shape, then I check the ignition driver....... and here is what I saw..........

not only has the epoxy let moisture into the ingitor on the top left side there is a freaken hair under all the epoxy on the right side.. sitting on top of the R039 chips

At first when I was reading, I was saying to myself...well it could be a fluke, things happen that would explain the moisture. However when I read there was a hair under the epoxy, that didn't fly. You can't explain that...that's plain and simple installation defectiveness. You should definitely connect MSD about that, I would find it hard to believe they could deny that. Good luck.

OEM>MSD crap

If you keep the heat off the OEM dizzy, it's 100% perfect.

Check out the thread about the new MSD dizzy if you want some good tech info about the crappy OEM cam/crank signals.

Dry ice? lol

I had iginition problems, removed the CD box and it all went away. I plan on M&W in the spring after spending $300 on towing because the ignitor blew.

By the way, the hair is great!

his mount also had rubber mounts to ensure the ignitor/coil wasn't vibrated to death.

Is the plastic layer glued to the circuit board or is it like a vacumm shaped bag?

It is an encapuslating epoxy..... you pour it in while the piece is upside down, it activates with oxygen, it hardens and that's it.

Looks like they didn't let it fully cure and or the epoxy does not shrink and swell like the plastic does and it seperated on the edges.

did you call MSD? I'm sure they'll replace it. They are pretty good about that, which is more than you can say about most companies that manufacture parts for imports.
