Default 88 civic no start........

I have a 88 civic I use for around town driving that stalled on me in the driveway......I now have no spark or fuel...... Engine turns over fine

I have replaced:

Coil
Igniter
Main relay
Cap and rotor
Plugs
I got another ECU from e-bay.....?

I have no "hello" blink on the ecu and the check engine light stays on after two seconds
I checked the timing belt also just for kicks

How do I go about checking if the ECU is recieving power? Is there a "hidden" fuse for the ecu that is not in either the engine fuse box or under the dash?

Please help as I am lost on this one.

Kent

I bought 2 ECU's off E-bay. As to if they are good like they said or if they are not compatible I do not know.

How do I go about checking if the ECU is receiving power?

check your grounds under the engine bay. gotta make sure ur harness grounds are snug and secure bc then that goes to ur ecu and gives it the ground etc. most common one is the thermostate ground . doesnt hurt to check

Did you check all fuses and then power going into the ecu. That is a **** load of stuff you replaced already.
ECU 15A under hood
#14 (10A) under dash
#2 (10A) under dash
#1 (10A) under dash
Hazard (10A) under hood

You should be able to find something up by checking those fuses.
Get back to us.

are you sure you dont have spark? I would think you have a bad distributor if there is still no spark with all the new parts installed but that doesnt explain the fuel.
When you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump?

I do not hear the pump, I also do not have a "hello" blink on the ecu when turning the key on. I checked multiple wires and times now for spark.

OK, so does any one have other ideas?

I am thinking maybe all the ECU's I have are inop???

Can I send one to some one to see if it works?
Does any one have a GOOD ECU that they could sell?

I really do not know what to do next.

To see if ECU is functioning ok, turn key to the on position and the red light should blink one time and go out. This means ecu is functioning properly. After light blinks one time, if it continues to blink these are your trouble codes. It is unlikely you have two bad ecu's. If you don't get the one blink, you have a wiring problem probably ecu ground is loose, etc. Get a book to find where all gounds are, inside car and in engine bay. Also, the main relay you changed did it say main relay on it, if not that was not the right one, use new one not used. Also how did you check fuel pressure to see if you had any or not, don't assume because you can't hear fuel pump turn on. I can never hear my pump turn on and it works fine.

good luck, colnago

I would check your main relay if you can't hear your fuel pump.

I replaced the main relay with a new one. So there should be no issue there. The new one looked the same as the old one.

I "checked" the fuel by smelling the exhaust while the car is being turned over by a helper.

The manual I have is a Haynes and I will look it over for wire diagrams.

Thannks,
Kent

check engine light should illuminate for 2 seconds when car is first started, if not that also indicates problem with ecu. I have trouble shooting procedures if you need them. I will need an email address to send them to, can't post them to this forum, took pictures with my camera.

Good luck,Colnago

Had this same problem with my 1988 civic hatch. On mine, the prob was cuased by the Alternator Soliniod valve fuse being blown. Poped a new fuse in and no problems. its located under the dash with the other fuses, it should tell you exactly what number it is on the plastic cover, but it is on the left and is the second fuse i believe.

OK, OK...... I do not know at what point in the ball game this came into play but.....

civichatch-88'superSi you were SPOT ON!!!!!

I pulled that fuse and it was blown!!!
I am 100 percent sure I did check that before.

So it lives again. Thanks all for the help.

So anyone want an ECU?
After the whole deal, I did some replacing of parts that were not needed and some that were. The ignitor tested bad at the auto parts shop, I watched the test too. The coil was borderline bad. I now have a better running car so all is well.

Thanks again,

Kent

Glade to help! Also just wanted to add that for some reason mine was jumping just a little over the 10 amp fuse, like 10.4, so id be driving it and check engine light would come on and the engine would shut off and not start up. So just in case that happens to you id keep a box of fuses with you just in case. If it does happen to blow again it replace it with a 20 amp fuse. Thats what i had to do after it kept blowin, it wont harm anything, just keep it from blowing.
