ok, my 97 ex auto..(d16y8).. hits vtec at around 5400rpm throught 7200 rpm. when it shifts to the next gear i go back to around 4500 rpm and i'm out of vtec and have to wait to 5400 all over again . if i were to get a vtec controller would it be ok to lower the rpm's where my vtec engages to say 5000rpm and disengagement at 4500? i don't want to do anything dramatic... just stay in vtec after it shifts.

 

it would be ok to lower your vtec engagement. but why? you won't gain anything by doing so if you dont have mods to even justify doing it. you'll just be in vtec longer, and still not go anywhere

 

u might even bog your engine, + waste of gas at that rpm..

 

you have an auto d16y8. deal with it.

Yeah, really.

I'm not sure what's worse, ******* with the stock VTEC crossover point on a 100% stock motor COMPLETELY untuned or the point that you're simply adding a VTEC controller to an automatic EX.

PS: It doesn't matter, you won't pick up any faster times by staying in VTEC. Your car probably hates you as if you know these #'s like that that probably means you just hold the throttle wherever which creates stress on the tranny b/c pre 00 honda civic auto trannies sucked. Your car probably hates you so much.

 

hey im running an auto ... 16.12 on the 1/4 not too shabby with my mods.

 

well right now i have headers, cai, and a full 2.25 exhaust with my stock cat. i'll be boosting at around 5 psi pretty soon on a small turbo. i was just wondering about certain things. the tranny isn't staying in forever either. just til it blows. thx again
