Default How do I check bearing clearances without the original rod bearings and mixed up main bearings?

how do I check my rod bearing clearances if I don't have the original rods and rod bearings for the crank?

and when I had my block re-sleeved, I removed the main bearings without labeling their original location so how do I check my main bearing clearances if I have mixed up the main bearings?

Mic the crank journals, use a dial bore gauge on the large end bores of the rods and main journals (with bolts torqued to spec), and subtract the crank journal from the journal bores. Now add your desired clearance to this and you have the thickness of the bearings you need.

when i measure the bores of the rods and main journals, i measure them without bearings on them?

and what if i want to double check using plastigauge can i utilize any of the bearings?

yes, without bearings in them.

measure mains I.D.
measure main journals O.D.

measure rod B.E. I.D.
measure rod journals O.D.

I.D. - O.D. - clearance spec you want = bearing thickness you order.

you can use plastigauge to double check the clearance of the bearings you order.

Unless you're planning on doing a lot where you would need a mic, I'd probably take it to the maching shop and have them do it for you. It shouldn't cost very much.
