Default Are my foglights too bright???

Okay, so I finaly finished the hybrid foglight project, but they look too bright. I think the bulbs are h4's. Anyways I painted the lense (a-market pilot lamps) and hooked them to the stock harness, did the pilot 4-pin, and used a Volvo switch (I'll post a write-up later).

But yea, they look very bright, I know it's kinda hard to tell from a pic, but do they look right to you guys. I just don't wan't Johnny Law getting on my case becuase my fake JDM's blinded him and made him spill his coffee.

is there anyway to lower the beam a bit?

we probably need night shots to see how far your beam actually goes (or how high) and then maybe tell from there.

mine look like that but don't blind anyone so it just depends

They are kinda hard to aim (you'll see why on the write-up), I'll prolly have to take off the bumper. Are H4's brighter than H3's?

they are a bit on the bright side but then again they are positioned low + your car sits low so there shouldn't be any probs. if you lived here i'd be careful cuz all the cops walk around with a stick up their asses just itchin' to slam somebody. then again we wont know for sure till you run em at night like petern says. why not park behind a buddy's car and hop in. see how bright they are from there. you'll know then if it's too bright or not.

also just wanted to say clean job (since i didn't in my first post)

i really like the install. if you search for my post about my foglights. you might see my beam pattern at night (although my install is much more ghetto, but i'll fix it one of these days)

i think the title was like optilux foglight something something

Thanks for the compliment. You can do the same as I did if you want them more flush, you'll see what I mean on the write-up tomorrow.

The reason for the use of yellow in fog lights is because yellow tends to reflect less then white light. In terms of funtion, when your in a heavy fog or snow at night, driving with yellow makes visiblity much easier. In addition, fog lights are designed to have a very low cutoff spectrum to illuminate only the road and not far out in the distance. When you raise the height of the cutoff which in turn also illuminates further down the road, more light is reflected by the element of concern (snow, fog, ect) as well as in other drivers eyes. Positioning of the fog lights is as important as the lamp itself.

I was driving home last weekend in my dad's Mini Cooper through a very thick fog at night. With the headlights (OEM HID's) the glare was completly blinding to me. However, with the headlights off and just the yellow fog lights made visibility so much better.

if your looking of funtion, lower the fog light to point more towards the ground/20-50ft infront of the car. The way you have them set up right now looks like it will just blind other drivers and provide no funtion when it really matters.

the pics could make the light look stronger, but it doesn't look too bad - at least enough for a cop to notice and pull you over.

that's a great fabrication job you did - any write ups?

thanks that was very informative. using the picture as reference i would have to say you'd be best off lowering the angle of the fogs because they do seem like they would blind the front driver. i know you said this would be difficult but it would probably be the best thing to do. good luck. btw great work on those lights. looking great.

h4 bulbs are headlight bulbs, they are going to be pretty bright. h3 bulbs are common for foglights.

That's actually not that bright. Right now i'm running hids in my JDM fogs. not to mention 4 hids for the headlights itself.
Here is a picture of my old foglights and headlights.

Here's my new setup.

one more thing to add. Jdm fogs are made out of projectors which has a shield to keep lights from escaping to oncoming traffic. What you have are reflectors that don't have any limitations on light. So your lights may be a little blinding, you might want to consider getting the jdm fogs instead. You'll see better, they'll look better, and you won't blind people.

I think they're okay but just make sure it's positioned right. You can have a not so bright light but not directly pointed at your rear view mirror. Hope you know where I am coming from. It's all about the angle.

there are color regulations on what kind of color your can have on the front of your car, first off:you cant have more than 4 driving lights on at one time, big fine, next you cant have any color that emergency vehicles have like red, blue or even green, those washer jets that light up blue and other colors are illegal, now its up to the officer and how he/she feels that day (officer discretion) to do anything about it but to stay on the safe side stick with the yellow and not so blue blues and whites, you should check the HTA or highway traffic act for your area, it should detail whats ok and whats not but those are the main NO NO's that ppl get busted for hope this helps

Nice tips dude, thank's. I pulled then out and re aimed them. They are corrent now. I aimed them at a wall and backed up slowly.... the fog lights over lapped and superceded the headlights. So I aimed them better.

It's yellow. I like the look, its a little more OEM. Plus yellow is legal, blue is trouble and looks too after market. I got to test these out in the fog once I aimed them correctly, its pretty neat, cuts deeper.
