Default vtec solenoid question

are vtec solenoids interchangeable? and if so... can u swap d-series solenoid's with b-series solenoid's? and if so will u notice an increase in performance>? thx a lot in advance.

while the outside casings are different they all work the same and interchange.

there is no performance benefit.

of course they can go bad

and it depends on the engine if you will notice a lack of VTEC. something like a HX that has "economy" vtec you will probably never notice.

but on a Z6 or y7 SOHC or any b/h/k yes its noticeable.

i think it's either

a) vtec works when it's suppose to

or

b) vtec doesn't work when it's suppose to

any other problem wouldnt have to do with the solenoid
i could always be wrong though

Yeah, there isn't more to it than that. You can't get better vtec or anything from changing solenoids.
So, unless your engine has a problem activating vtec, you should look at other things for performance increases.

k, thx for the info. my friend suggested that i put a b16 vtec solenoid on my d16y8 cause it was kick in harder or something. i wasn't sure so i asked. do vtec solenoid's sound any different? mine is noticeable during crossover but not as noticeable as my friends' prelude. thx

thats because he has a dual cam vtec. you only have a single. he has vtec on both intake and exhaust while yours is only intake side.

vtec is done in your engine your solenoid only detects/starts the transformation
the solenoid pretty much "does" nothing
