Sloppy Shifter?

Shifter in my 93 CX feels really sloppy even when in gear. Not sure why, I'm thinking the bushings in the linkage maybe?
Also sometimes it's hard to get into 2nd, I really gotta slam it in there. I'm guessing this is related to the bushings, correct?

most likely the "plastic" casing around the pivot point on the shifter itself is worn. just get under your car and check it all out.
normally i would say trouble finding only one gear would be a tranny problem, but being a CX, i doubt the tranny is damaged. a friend of mine that has alot of honda tranny experience once told me there is rarely anything wrong with a cx/vx tranny when he tears em apart.

Thanks, I'll check it out tonight.
I've noticed sometimes I'll have to jam it into first to but the trans never grinds or anything.

I had pretty much the same problem with my HX when I first got it. The shifter had so much play it was difficult to tell what gear I was in. I say, jack up the car and look at where the shift lever meets the linkage. There is probably a worn or missing silicone or rubber bushing there. I ended up getting a B&M short shifter, and that came with some generic o-ring style bushings. When everything was bolted back up, it was like a brand new transmission.

Everything else is fine. Already checked it.
I might fire off some bronze bushings on the lathe for the linkage and add a short shifter. Should fix it up.

the sloppyness is caused by the bushings and i would check out the tranny and clutch to make sure that the clutch is engaging all the way, also tranny fluid is a must...royal purple syncromesh
hope you dont mind me thread jacking but id figured it fits into sloppy shifter category...
i sometimes have a problem getting into first and Reverse...and also when im shift pretty quickly it sometimes doesnt want to go into 2nd, which causes me to grind...
a few of my friends had told me that it might be the shift fork, but then that means i have to take apart the tranny...(i really dont want to do this, but i guess i have to if its the problem)
anyone know what the problem might be if say it wasnt the bushings? (i replaced the bushings when i installed the short shifter...
o yea, the tranny is a 98+ JDM ITR tranny

first and reverse are not synchronized, so its normal to take more effort to engage. however, almost all B series trannies SUCK after 50-60k of even moderate abuse, and beeing a 98 and a TYPE R, i would garentee it fits both those categories.

i was replying to the latter part of his question as to why he sometimes has a hard time putting it into second, bad fluid can cause that, but if his bushings are shot than thats they underlying problem.
