I have a 2000 Ek with 190k on the cluster. Everytime I get my oil changed they say it is low on oil. The first time they said it was 1/4 low. Then 3,000 miles later they said it was 1 Quart low. While at the place they recommend a thicker weight oil and told me that it is normal for a car with such high miles to eat oil. Is this true? They also told me to come back in 1,000 miles and they will top it off for free. Is this a good idea? Should I use a different kind of oil due to the high miles? Also ive never had ANY problems with the car. I just replaced the radiator/timing belt/ and other misc. things but have never had any major problems with the car. Any advice is appreciated.

Hell no it's not normal for a motor to eat that much oil. You've got worn seals, possibly rings, or maybe even a leak. Check for black film around your oil pan gasket.

 

I've had a lot of motors with bad valve seals and blow by, see if there's a lot of oil running out the breather back into the intake

dude haha i put 50k on my car within a month...i drive back and forth about 20miles each way to my girls house...

I think it took me almost 5 years to put 50k on my 2000. Unbelievable...

Driving a hundred or more miles a day... I have done it for a little more than a year, and have almost 30k on my brand new car.

147 miles when I bought it, just shy of 30k right now... It's not that hard.

You are retarded, unless you drive 20 or more hours straight everyday, you cant put 50k on a car that fast...

 

its fine that it burns oil. My 88 civic with 130k burns a quart every 1.5k. Its been doing that for sometime now. Your fine, but just make sure it doesnt blow smoke out of the exhaust

try "restore" by ametch. I put that thing in my car and helped reduce oil consumption. It also gave me better MPG and my car had more power. You can get it at kragens

maybe he drives his car on the highway everyday. maybe he had to travel to work far far away. i wouldnt think it'd be impossible. think about it.

 

It's impossible to find a 99-00 hatch with under 70k miles. At least it was when I bought mine.

 

i lose a little oil in my car, 140k miles.

it seems to be normal in my case, all of my civics with over 100k have done it.

this one is losing it through the breather mostly i think (get a bit of oil in my intake) anyways. ive never had any problems..just top it off and go.

if its that big of a problem rebuild or sell

 

I've had my car for one year and a month, I put 32k on it. I used to drive 75 miles each way to school, but that was only from october till december 05. I drove across country once. I lose up to 1/2 quart every 4k. My oil pan gasket is slightly leaky though.

 

my 96 EK has 160k miles and it was eating some oil.. i ran that stop leak oil additive and it stopped being low. try it maybe?

and btw, i have a coworker who works in westminster, ca and lives in santa maria, ca. 220 miles each way, twice a day. she's crazy, but family is in santa maria.

thats stupid, dont ever use that shyt on ur car..all it does it swell up your seals and stops it temporarily.

i've had a customer who put that **** in his old toyota and it worked for him. and when his car finally gave out, he got a new tundra and since it worked so well for his old toyota he decided to put some in his new 06 tundra. swelled up his seals so bad that when he got his brand new car TOWED, it was impossible to take his motor apart to see what was wrong cuz the seals were so swollen. warranty VOID.

I drive atleast 30 and i hardly go anywhere lol, my parents live 4 hours away but thats about it. lol

i only have ~42,xxx miles on my 00 ek coupe and the last time i changed my oil, i was about 1.2 quartz of oil short. i've always used mobil 1 synthetic and i've always changed my oil no later than 3k miles. i've recently had jrsc installed. maybe thats the problem im losing ~ more than 1 quart every oil change. or maybe its just the tranny. its eating up oil.

why would your transmission be to blame for burning/ losing oil?

One quart per 3000 miles is certainly not abnormal, and does not necessarily indicate a problem.

I wouldn't switch to a higher viscosity, but it couldn't hurt to use a "high-mileage" formulation for future oil changes.

Ok, I should restate .... it's not abnormal, but it certainly isn't good. My Y7 that I dogged the crap out of, had 160K and never burned a drop. My accord had almost 200K and never burned a drop.
