Re: Ground controls with Koni yellows or Tokico Illumini
What's up everyone.......Anyone know which one is a better combo, or better yet, if you have one of these combinations, how do you like it?
Konis are a superior shock...better build quality, service, everything. If you look at what SCCA racers use (the really good ones) it's usually a revalved koni...rarely if ever do they use Tokicos. Ever car i've ever put Konis on has been fantastic, everyone has been impressed.
Konis are somewhat more desirable as they're rebuildable and revalvable. This means if one blows up, or you go to insane spring rates (north of 500-600 starts to qualify as insane), you can send the Konis off to get 'em revalved. Not so with the Illumina.
However, the Illumina is not a bad shock for most applications. What are you gonna do with the car - just a fun street car, or will it get autocrossed or some such thing?

I definitely want a fun street car, but I want to hit the track sometimes, and though I've never autoX, I want to in the future. I wonder what the chances are of getting the best of all three worlds...
The ironic thing about this is I have always heard and thought Tokico Illuminis were the best shocks out there. They have a excellent reputation. Everyone seems to prefer the Koni yellows though

1. Either choice will make the street car part better.
2. What do you mean by "the track?" I can help you if you mean road courses...if you mean drag racing I'll have to defer to others.
3. The Tokico is NOT a bad shock. The Konis just offer you a bit more flexibility down the road.

if you are serious about your car AND the track/autox konis or agx's would be my recomendation.
agx would be the cheaper route.
