Tein coilovers
I'm currently trying to decide what would be the better coilovers for me. I know that the Tein Flex coilovers are really recommended, but they aren't cheap. The Tein Basics are more in my price range. I'd be willing to save if they are a much better setup, but if the basics are a good deal, i'd rather put the other money towards something else.
My question is, how much better are the Flex than the Basic? I've looked on several websites, including Tein's, and they all have the very general and vague description of both units.
What does the Flex offer that the basic doesn't, and is it that big of a deal?
Thanks for your help.

im no expert in suspension setups but you are asking a pretty vague question yourself. if you want a straight answer, you are gonna have to state what you would like to do with your set up, drag? daily drive? auto x? all of the above? that will ultimately determine what set up you should get.
basics have height adjustment where as the flex setups have dampening and height adjustment.
i have also considered these set ups for myself but i havent decided what my own goals are yet.

Plus, Basics i believe have only spring perch/preload adjustables. Flex has threaded body for height adjustment separate from preload. Oh and Flex is compatible with the EDFC, Electronic Damping Force Controller.

Thanks for the all the feedback. I'm sorry for the n00b question, but can you explain what "Basics i believe have only spring perch/preload adjustables" means.
Thank you guys
Thank you guys
the basics can adjust the height of the car at each corner, like your typical aftermarket coilover system. There is no shock valving (damping) adjustment on the basics. other systems, like the flex allow you to turn a little **** on the top of the shock to increase/decrease shock damping/stiffness, which is seperate from the height adjustment. so you can control ride firmness/softness.
if you are stuck on tein, you might want to also look at the SS model, which cost a bit more than the basic (but less than the flex), and adds damping adjustments.

I'm not really stuck on Tein, but I would prefer coilovers, preferably the full type and not the sleeve. If someone can recommend another good system other than Tein, I'm all ears.

If ur still stuck on Teins

No bracket lock.
With coilovers like the Basic or SS, u can only adjust height by compressing/preloading the springs.
Though preload is still adjustable on coilovers like the Flex, they also feature a threaded lower body where u can adjust height by unlocking the bracket lock and raise or lower. Without touching the springs.
IMO, save up and get the Flex
They are more superior compared to Basics or SS. My personal reason being, the ability tune settings to suit my needs. But if u can do without those than u can just go ahead with the Basics & save cash while ur at it , Goodluck

What exactly do you mean by "compressing/preloading the springs." I thought the ride height on coilovers was simply changed by using the supplied tool.
I would really like to get the Flex, but for their price, I could get the Basics, wheels and tires. I'm just trying to figure out the best bang for my buck, but if doing it right means saving for the Flex, I guess I have to.

By compressint/preloading the springs means to lower or raise the coilover perch (the two locking perches) therefore rasing/lowering the spring independently to the shock itself.
to me, imo, the basics feel "too stock" for anythign but daily driving. daily driving theyre great and comfortable. the flexs are a lil rough for dd for me, but good on the track.
i have the tein flex on my del sol, the same as the eg and dc... i love them. i use them for daily driving only, but i am a very spirited driver id reccomend them!!
x2 i love my flexs

Thank you for all the replies. It sounds like I just better save my pennies and get the Flex's and do it right.
Thanks again everyone

they deal mostly with evo's, sti's, 240's, rx7's, 350z's....... but they make honda applications.

Possibly, I have to get the money saved anyways, so we'll see when I get to that point. There's about a million an one choices I have to make.

So the TEIN basics are pretty comfortable on the street? Not looking to auto cross or anything just want something comfortable that has adjustable ride height.
ok well i had the Tein Flexs on my eg and i hated them. they are such cheep low quality suspension. Firs off the spring rates are low and the most important the valveing sucks ***. i sugest you save your money and be patient and save up for some ApexN1 or some HKS or even JIC's you will not be disapointed. I do a lot of track events and ive done many auto x's with the flexs and i didnt like them, so i was lucky enough to try other coilovers and i must say that between the ones ive stated the teins were my least favoriate

Those would be nice, but unfortunately, the price is a bit too rich for my blood.

Well if your patient and just save up a bit more you are not going to regret it. They are so much better then teins. just wait and buy something good
