Default comments on my stainless welds

well i learned to tig on aluminum so going to steel was a little harder for me then most i think. anyways this is some stainless tubing (i believe its 16 gage) welded to some 3/16" mild steel plate................ besides being a little more still and consistent when laying the bead (which will take time and practice) does the weld look to be good? no back purging took place here for all u guys tht want to see interior shots sorry. let me know. thanks

mike

The welds on the right side of the pic look just a litle too cold and the welds on the left look a little too hot and not enough filler. The welds from the middle of the pic to about an inch left look pretty good though. Keep practicing, you're gonna pick it up quickly.

what exactly is walking the cup and what is the purpose? i remember seeing a vid on here of a guy doing it and it looked like PITA. would i really need to do it for a weld like this?

Walking the cup is exactly what it sounds like. People do it to get a more consistant look to their welds. I dont like doing it because you cant always walk the cup and I dont want to get accustom to it and have to rely on it.

works well in the oil refinery industy, but all methods of adding filler are great.
