Default just bought a 91 TSI for the GF...

here are some pics and specs on the car...the story is as follows...she has an 04 corolla, and owes about 7k on the car...its worth like 13k...and she wants to downsize her bills and get out of debt...yet still wanted a "sporty" vehicle for around 3k. well...the options for something that is sporty and cheap are somewhat limited...although a friend of mine had this thing for sale so i bought it...the car will eventually get a small 16g...right now its running 8psi on the 14b until she learns to drive a 5spd transmission a little better.

so here are the specs...and some pics...

91 TSI FWD
160k miles or so....

--NEW Mitsu OEM timing belt
--NEW Mitsu OEM balance shaft belt
--NEW Mitsu OEM hydraulic tensioner
--NEW Mitsu OEM main belt tensioner pulley
--NEW Mitsu OEM main belt idler pulley
--NEW Mitsu OEM balancer belt tensioner pulley
--NEW Mitsu OEM valve cover gasket set w/spark plug o-ring
--NEW Mitsu OEM water pump
--NEW Mitsu OEM timing covers
--NEW Mitsu OEM clutch w/TOB
--NEW Mitsu valve cover
--NEW NGK 8mm wires
--NEW NGK BPR7ES plugs gapped .0030
--NEW Alternator
--NEW headgasket

The car also has mods on it as well. Here is the rundown:

Exterior:

--Eibach prokit w/KYB shocks (1.5" drop)
--ASA LS5 16x7 rims w/205-55-16 Continental touring tires (90% tread)
--94 talon rear conversion
--clear corner lenses

Interior:

--Autometer phantom 30-0-30 boost gauge mounted on steering column
--JVC cd player with factory mids/highs (everything works)
--Lancer Evolution VIII floor mats (clean)
--Lancer Evolution VIII shift ****

Engine/Drivetrain:

--6bolt motor with excellent compression *140* across
--1g head rebuilt with low mileage valves, cleaned, resurfaced. *Lancerman*
--New clutch
--Rebuilt tranny *Lancerman*

Mods:

--Pacesetter tubular manifold
--3" turboback exhaust
--Low mileage 14b
--SBR Street FMIC w/black powdercoated 2.5" upper/lower innercooler piping
--SBR FMIC J-pipe
--Greddy type s BOV
--K&N filter
--short shifter
--NGK 8mm wires
--Autometer phantom 30-0-30 boost gauges on steering column mount

i'm going to replace the tubular bullshit manifold with an OEM 2g manifold, need to clean or replace the drivers seat...and make the exhaust quieter. otherwise, it runs/drives perfectly and should be somewhat reliable.

most people don't like them...but its so easy to make a very reliable 300whp.

a turbo swap and this car will run high 12's...with cold ac etc. in fact right now, with 20psi, this turbo and slicks the car would touch 12's...

i would have loved to see her in a honda...but it would take too much money to make it fast enough for her.

8psi...no.

i am too insecure to make her car faster than mine.

I have yet to see a reliable DSM, my uncles 3000gt just broke, for no reason, drivin and then sput then boom dead... , cousins galant, died 3 months ago, friends talon blew his engine, &lt;-- and no he's no car nut, he barely drives it. Even my best friends brothers evo was giving out, clutch went bad, and all sorts of little electrical probs...

Always thought these cars were cool but they will always be branded as non reliable or is that the second gen that has the problems?

Sweet car. I had a '91 NA Laser (same thing) that I got for $500 and it was actually in great condition. Some might've called it a piece of junk, but I swear that car had tons of character. Only thing I ever had to fix was a hole in the exhaust too...but then the transmission siezed and I got rid of it rofl. Had a lot of fun with it though - I'd like a turbo awd one someday.

Mitsu's have problems in general, but the first gen's were better then the later models. My dad owned one for 10 years and never had a single problem. No he never modified the car, but it did have 450,000+ when he gave it to a friend. Thing had original paint and looked flawless.

On the other side though, I had 3 friends all with second gens and all eventually went to ****. Blown turbo, engine fire, and sputter/die were the deaths of the 3 cars. Then again these things were heavily modified.

I had major electrical problems with both, they were first gen. I finally gave up on dsms all together and moved to honda. I still like to see clean dsms though.

Seems you are leaking some boost somewhere. Stock boost on the 1g's is 12-12.5psi. Other than that it looks to be in decent shape for its age. I miss my TSi AWD.

ar...more or less but they are not well build and the price reflects that.

i did my shares of dsm wrenching so don't assume i am just another honda 4lyfer

the car do looks mint inside out so not bad for 3 k
