I recently replaced the odometer backlight bulb in my 2000 Odyssey, not sure about the similarity to your vehicle, but here are the steps I went through:
1)Remove steering column covers-three screws in the bottom cover. I needed to remove these to have sufficient room to remove other dash pieces.
2) Remove panel left and right of steering wheel-these are held in with integral plastic clips. I did some light prying with a masking tape covered screw driver to pop these panels loose.
3) With these panels removed, you should now see screws that hold any remaining pieces that need to come out. I had to remove an additional piece that is around the instrument cluster before the screws for the instrument cluster were revealed.
4) Remove instrument cluster.

A couple notes:
1) The factory service manual for your specific vehicle is worth its weight in gold for a job like this. Mine explained all the above steps in detail with drawings that show where all the clips/screws are. Breaking these plastic pieces or the electrical connectors behind them can get expensive.
2) Autozone did not carry the bulb I needed, I bought the smallest bulb autozone had that looked identical to the bulb I removed however the bulb I purchased was slightly larger than the OEM bulb and it spread the bulb socket just enough that it would not fit back into the instrument cluster. I ended up ordering the bulb on line.

Good Luck

02 CRV huh... I believe those are about as easy as they get. I could've sworn the manual says to remove the column covers and such but yeah, that's the manual.. I remember removing the two screws underneath the cluster cover, the black shroud in front of the instrument cluster. Pull the shroud out, can be difficult at times. Then remove the screws holding the cluster in. You'll then be able to pull out the cluster. Just bring the darn thing to your local honda dealer and ask the parts guys to help with locating the needed bulbs. They'll need the cluster because I believe there's a few different manufacturers for that part.. Good luck..

Thanks for the advice, guys. I already have the replacement bulbs. I have had service manuals for all my vehicles in the past, just never got around to ordering one for the "V". The parts diagram I have indicates the locations for fasteners for the cluster. I hoped there would be some readily available information on how to access them.
