Default Spring bolts on exhaust pipe

Are there any easier ways to get those damn exhaust spring bolts back on? I've tried pretty much everything, vice grips, pliers, hands, and i'm pretty much fed up, this is the second time i've had to do this, once putting my cat on and now i'm putting a header on.

Just wondering if there are any tricks to this to make it easier. thanks.

Two vice grips. One to hold the flanges together and another to compress the spring enough to atleast start the thread!
