Default my build

Alright guys i dont normaly post on here but i browse a lot.

I plan on rebuilding my 99 type-r..

... THe thing is the whole motor has 650 miles on it from a recent rebuild where i got screwed big time.. but i wont talk about that.

The first rebuild was to repair a spun bearing.. And now this is what this next rebuild will be focused on. .

First, i plan on having my extra GSR crank machined to use because i was told my current crank can not get fixed.. My rods were told to me that they are fine along with my pistons.. with that my head should be fine, correct?

Second, Will it be safe to us the GSR crank on type-r rods, from what i read they are pretty close in bearing sizes and rod fitment.. Just asking to be 100% sure.

Third and im sorry last one..
The pistons i am using are CTR oversized, so ya obviously the compression is up there so should a block guard and thicker headgasket be used? I did plan on atleast a gasket.

So thank you guys for your time.. and hopefuly this time i can get this right since im doing it on my own

.. Any help and advice is apperciated

If the bearing has been spun, the rods are garbage. if the crank has been scratched badly or damaged from a spun bearing, just throw it away and find another good used one. they arent that expensive. they are nearly imposible to clean properly also, so its in your best interest to have a reputable crank shop remove the oil galley ball plugs and tap it for threaded ones. As you have seen, mistakes are costly and frustrating. I suggest you get a helms manual and read the bottom end assembly over before you jump into the rebuild yourself.

like its not worth the time and money assebling a motor thats not going to work. just get a good set of aftermarket rods and have the new crank polished. and for ur head gasket. well if u want get a high comp head gasket. but u really dont need that unless u wanna be on the safe side

99 ITR? hope its JDM

why would he do that? he already has CTR pistons, assuming he is using a R head, compression will already be like ~12.7:1... which is WAY too high, IMO, for a street motor. plus it puts the pistons SCARY close to the head. my suggestion would be to get some JDM P30 pistons... but its your motor. you can get a slightly thicker headgasket than OEM... OEM is 0.026in crushed...

toss your old rods, those usually dont survive a rod bearing spinning. pick up another crank/rods usually get them cheap. and have them checked over by a reputable machine shop before putting it together. when putting it together be sure to measure everything...

GSR and ITR rods and crank are all dimensionally the same, using the same bearings etc. the ITR **** is just balanced better and the crank is heavier. you can have a good machine shop balance all your new stuff also if that concerns you...

good luck

you have to resleeve if you want that big a bore. a block guard would not be necessary.
