Ummm.... I didn't take the trans out of the car for no reason, you know. I didnt see the need to post what was wrong with it, I just want to know what to look for externally, if anything.
I installed trans and motor 3 months ago. Two weeks ago, it started making some kind of noise, like a rubbing. Hard to explain. I thought it was my clutch going. I was driving, heard a loud pop out of nowhere. After that, 1st and 2nd gear were dead. 3rd and 4th gear wouldnt work without constant grinding. Eventually smoke was pouring out of passenger wheel well. Stopped car. Towed home. Got under it, found tranny oil drain plug LOOOOOOSE. Halfway out. No fluid in tranny.
What happens to a tranny with no fluid in it?

trannies seize without fluid in it.
You're looking at a new tranny if you cant get into the gears. At the very least you're opening up the case if it ran dry for a significant amount of time.
My tranny ran low on fluid as the shop forgot to tighten the drain bolt. I drove 2 blocks with the tranny making a whining noise (like a ghetto supercharger).
The shop opened up the tranny and didnt find anything wrong, put it back together, made sure the bolt was tight and its been okay for the past couple hundred miles.

well with no fluid, it basically gets hot as hell and would probably mess up the gears...so that would explain all the smoke. get a new tranny dude, if there was smoke "pouring" out that thing is screwed.

That's exactly the sound it was making, like a ghetto supercharger. I couldn't get it into first or second at all, like my shifter was hittin a brick wall.
I have another H23 trans already, I'm putting it in tomorrow.
About how much to rebuild the old one?
