2" or 2.25" cat or no cat??
i tried the search already and theres too many pages and it seems like every post is about a muffler and not pipe diamteters. what i want to know is which size (2 or 2.25") will give me the most hp gain and the best low sound ?? i got a dynomax super turbo muffler right now with no cat or res with stock dx piping and it sounds pretty good but it still cracks. i'm getting the exhaust done later today and i'm going to put a cat back on cuz i know without it it will be too loud and for emission purposes...but i still want to know everyone's opinion...2" or 2.25" NA cat or no cat????
It depends what you are looking for... 2 inch is good for more low end torque, but on the hand, 2.25 inch helps in the midrange and top end. Also, it depends how built your motor is... will it really benefit from a big exhaust? Take my car, for example. I'm running 2.25 inch (non mandrel bent) with no resonator and stock cat, and I have a flowmaster 30 series muffler (2 chamber - loudest you can get...) It's loud as HELL, and my 60 ft. times got WORSE... though there could be other variables working in. However, I got better 1/4 mile times, and better MPH at the end of the strip. BTW, 2.25 inch will have a deeper sound as well...
As for the cat, it all comes down to what you want, because a modern cat doesn't rob that much power, but if you're worried, get a carsound or random technology cat. Your call.

i just got my muffler up and running ...no cat is ****** too damn loud if u want that high wahhh noise...2.25 is a nice piping...for your muffler i heard that the magnaflow resonator is good for deep sound...i have stock cat 2.25 piping and a rs*r invidia axle back and its ****** loud and vibrates at a low tone...pretty nice but still damn loud...i tried no cat and it was pretty sick to me....thats my 2 cents....hope it helps...

thats the answer i was looking for! thanks! i still have to call the muffler shop and ask them how much for a mandrel bent 2.25" exhaust and also get a cat back on.
these motors aren't known for their low end torque anyways but the midrange up to redline is where they shine.

man i just called all the muffler shops around here and their charging me from 150 to 200 cnd plus taxes just for the 2.25 piping. and if i want a cat installed, it will be 200 !!!!!! i'm just going to put a 20" resonator on for like 60-70 bucks. i can't believe all this is going to cost me over 200 cdn !!!! i should've kept my honda cat....geez
how much did the shops charge you guys ?? here the lowest i can get is 150 cdn plus 14% tax and that doesn't include the resonator which is like 70 bux. and then i asked how much for a universal catalytic converter and they said....$200 !!!!!!
how much did your set ups cost you guys??
2.25 to 2.5 for exhaust piping. Cat is only necessary to pass smog tests. I run a 3" Test pipe in place of my Cat to correspond with the 3" outer diameter outlet of my JDM headers. Its all Subjective.
ZcivicZ I hope i cought you before you bought your exhaust.
I have done 4 exhaust installs now and had the first two ones done for me. I paid 600 cdn for the first one and 500 cdn for the second.
Here is the secret. Buy a stick welder from canadian Tire for 190 cdn then the prices are as follows:
2.25" aluminized pipe 20 cdn
2.25: medrel U bend 27 cdn
2.25: medrel U bend 27 cdn
2.25" mendrel 45 bend 15 cdn
2.25" medrel 45 bend 25 cdn
megnaflow tip ~40 cdn
muffler ~60 cdn
Now weld it all up. Cut the U's into 90 degree angles. Then use 45's put on reversly for over the axle. Drop your stock system one the ground and the copy it exactly . Really easy.
It only took me 7 hours of work on my first exhasut system with first time welding

hey i think i know which crx you're talking about...i remember seeing it and the bottle in person...do you know where i can get the pipes for $100 around here???
minute muffler wants 180 plus taxes and 200 for a universal cat...thats a rip!!!
hey 89crxSi...how come you went through 4 exhaust systems?? thats a lot of cash!
i called around today but decided not to get it done, yet. i don't know if i want to try making an exhaust system myself...i might screw it up plus i don't wanna spend another $200 just for the tool...i'll let you know what happens
I had 4 exhasuts done on my other cars and GF car. I had threee previous cars to my CRX.... until I found out true honda power
Do you have lordco auto parts over there. You should nearby thell get you all that cheap

Now i have apinted muffler and pipe to tip all black with high tempp paint. Now it looks so sweet. and I welded in the hanger on the pipe instead of the temp coat hanger
yeah i understand that it will cost more than if you build it yourself but i don't have access to a welder nor do i have $200 to buy a stick welder. but doesn't the price include labor ???? i would guess so cuz they have to take off the old system and install the new one...i mean i could do that myself no problem, but i just need the system made for me
anyone want a test pipe ??...i need to get rid of mines....send offers to xpsonic@hotmail.com ..any offers taken..peace
ok well most shops in BC charge you about 5 dollars cdn per weld. So if you took off your system then cut the pre bought pipes into the desired lengths and got them to weld it for you I bet they would charge you very little. So ask themm if you could do that.
A word of warning. This is the proceedure for making and exhaust sytem off the car.
REMOVING THE OLD ONE
Jack your car up and undoo the spring bolts attaching cat to downpipe. Dont worry the springs dont sshoot out! Then undo the 5 exhasut rubber hanger things. Then cut the stock pipe before the bend coming into the muffler. Then pul out sytem and continue on./
MAKING THE NEW ONE
Weld a straigt pipe off the downpipe flange too the first bend. Cur the mendrel 90 * bend out... Put this straight pipe and bend on top of old exhasut and mark where to cut so its right length for next one. Put the bend in and recrate hole exhasut sytem up to the muffler.
Before you reach the muffler You have to :
a) put a flange there
b) leave it cut and clamp it
If you choose B then do that then drive car to muffler shop and have them weld it then remove clamp.
This is because you cant put the pipe over axle iff you have the muffler on or even with the curve to muffler on.
