Default Si: Revs into VTEC

When you rev past 5900 rpms on the Si, it kicks the VTEC on, a slight boost is felt...
When you change to the higher gear, the rpms drop below 5900 and therefore the car kicks back out of VTEC mode...then in another second you rev past 5900 again, and again the car kicks into VTEC mode.
Question: This quick, kick-in/out of VTEC have any bad effects on the engine? because VTEC turns on, turns off, turns on, turns off....

There are no adverse affects. This is what the motor was designed to do.

Shift at redline and it won't drop out of VTEC. lol

But in all seriousness, there will be absolutely no ill effects of going in and out of VTEC.

if you're already up there, just stay in "vtec". shift at a little higher rpm.

@ what rpm does everyone here shift to get most power overall? another forum said to shift right before redline (7500), others say @ redline (8000) and other says a little past (8200). what are your thoughts

if you want the most power you can shift at redline right before cut-off. and yes, this way you can stay in your "vtec" zone into the next gear. but you're car is gonna drink down your gas.

the vtec is designed so that when your punchin ur pedal , it stays in high rpm so that it's not constantly turn on and off, which ***** up ur vtec, so make good use of it

I am glad everyone got a good laugh...reading it now, it does sound funny...maybe it didn't come out right.

I actually shift as close to possible to redline...but it still falls below VTEC line...I was just wondering if that was the norm ... or does everyone else stay above VTEC line?

If you are going out of Vtec, you are not shifting right. Redline is at 8200. So if you "shift around" redline, you do not know when you are shifting. As soon as the revs get to 8000 then you shift. It will not go out of Vtec. Practice makes perfect.
