Default Uncaptive Springs?

I posted pics of my suspension in the slammed cars thread, i was told that i have uncaptive springs cause i didnt have a load on my springs at all times. Also the guy said it was dangerous. Now what would make my springs not have a load on them at all times? what can happen if i drive like this all the time?

You can:

1. Do nothing about it and just deal with it popping in and out
2. Get Full Coilovers or lowering springs instead of using sleeve and shock combo
3. Get different shocks, i.e. Koni SP3s with droop limiter to help with limit the gap
that you have
4. Get helper springs to keep it "loaded"
5. Most just leave it like that, as long as you have the load of the car on it, it'll be'
okay, but it's when you go up driveways or inclines that it might pop out, and
hopefully pop back in.

your first picture didnt bother me nearly as much as your second picture.

first of all, youre just too low. look at the first pic, you have no bumpstop, and if you did, itd be riding on that nearly the whole time. looking at the distance from the top of the spring to the top of the threaded sleeve, imagining a loaded spring once the cars weight is on, theres litereally no shock travel. meaning, you have no suspension.

you wasted your money. might as well have cut your springs on stock shocks.

what i thought you were asking about "uncaptive spring" was that there is a gap from the top of the spring to the top hat. that actually is pretty typical and normal and common. once the car is loaded, it wont be a big deal. especially if you have swaybar connecting, but you dont. thats still mostly ok. some ppl do have issues ive seen with spring kinda rubbing the sleeve, but not common. not sure if thats installation error either.

now what blew me away with your second pic is that you dont even have the lower perch even threaded into the sleeve. you basically have everything disconnected. in my opinion, this is not safe. does that mean youre going to go careening off a cliff? maybe not. but i would never, ever let that occur. everything is just talked about before is completely overshadowed by your lack of proper installation.

again, you wasted your money. might as well have cut your springs on stock shocks.

bottom line: raise your car up.

that would scare me far to much to drive a car daily like that. in my opnion its half assed, and leaves room for failure. i would raise it or go with a differetn setup.

wow, how ignorant.

How is there gonna be room for failure unless your wheels catch air? As long as there is weight on the wheels, then how is the spring suppose to move

Car never gets driven right now due to a suspended license. But the crap on the car is coming off and ksports are going in.

Crap? The parts on your car are not crap (although I personally would only run Ground Controls on Koni shocks, nothing else).

Re-install the parts properly and you will be fine. As it is now, some of those parts will eventually fail (if the shocks aren't blown already from bottoming out).

and get the spring perch onto the threaded portion of the sleeve, and also put some bumpstops on there.

uve obviously never hit a bump fast enough, or taken a turn fast enough for on of your tires to lift off the ground.
