LS not getting spark
My LS just won't start. It was starting to fire up a little slower than usual and then it just wouldn't turn over. It's not getting spark but It's getting plenty of power. Should I try a new Distributor cap and rotor or what?
Take them off and look at them...then make that judgement for yourself. Thats the best way I know how. While your at it you can take a good look at the coil.
the coil needs to be ohmed oout to make sure it's within the tolerable range....you need to get the specs for the tolerable range or take it to autozone and have them ohm it out. also while you are at it pull the ignition module and have that tested as well, as it runs a series of timing/spark/fuel settings. you can have this done for free at your local autozone.
Ok, I checked the coil and it was right on spec. I tried a new ignitor and rotor, and still no spark. What does the ignition module look like? I can't believe my car has been sitting for over a week!! This is realy pissing me off! Please help.
the module is in the distributor next to the coil....it is small and has 3 wires running to the top and 1 to the side of it which all disconnect from it and is held in by 2 screws and a mounting plate...one of the wires is from the coil
no what you need to check is the IGNITOR in the distributor that was my problem and when i replaced it all was ok

The little box with the three wires on top and one on the side is what I thought was the ignitor; anyway I replaced it and it didn't help. Is this the same thing as the ignition module? I'm gonna go through the fuses again but they all looked fine b4. I don't want to have my car towed because the front bumper is a little messed up and I don't want it ripped off.

wow stupidity is what makes this difficult....THE IGNITION MODULE IS THE IGNITOR....don't make contrary comments referring to the same damn thing

That's what I thought. I replaced the ignitor, rotor, ohm'ed the coil (autozone), cap looks fine, just checked all the fuses including ignition once again. Still no spark. Looks like she is going to have to be towed tommorow. I've already been without my teg for almost 2 weeks and replaced or checked everything I can think of and I'm afraid of some towing company ripping up my front bumper. Besides the fact that I don't want to pay for a tow to a shop up the road just to find out that it was something stupid that I could have fixed myself. ANY OTHER IDEAS??
just for ***** and giggles....do you know anyone w/ another ECU you can quickly throw in and see if it changes things? that could be a possible cause of the problem you are having, and if you know someone w/ one to quick swap and test it will either fix it or be another possibility eliminated
I'm going to mess with it today and if I can't figure it out by lunch time then I guess I'm going to have it towed to the shop. I don't have an ECU to try but I'm sure my mechanic will probably have it figured out by the end of the day. Any other ideas b4 I have to tow it ? Anyone? I guess we'll see what happens.
Just towed the car to the shop and they asked if I checked the ECU. They also think that it is probably the distributor and I might just need to buy a new one. We will see what they find.
It turned out to be the distributor. Not any piece of it but the actual distributor was in fact bad. About $215 at autozone. Getting her tuned up while she's at the shop. Thanx to all who helped.
