Help w/ speedometer problem please
95 Accord EX
The speedometer comes and goes whenever it wants. I just replaced the speed sensor on the tranny, and the problem didn't go away.
Can anyone tell me what else could be the problem?

Okay listen, you should have searched, and found your answer, but since i am a nice guy, i will help you out.
94-97 Accords Have Speedometer Problems, not all, but quite a few, its not the speed sensor. Its the speedometer itself (the gauge), the little motor that runs the needle is faulty. Its connectivity is inconsistent, you'll notice if you bang on your odometer reset that the needle will magically start back up.
Unscrew your plastic cover (the things that extends all the way to the vents, its not very hard, you have to pull out a few things and unclip, as i recall. there is your cluster light intensity swith, and there's your rear defrost, and maybe one other, take a screw driver with long neck and pop them out, and unclip the wire, and any of the screws in that area, once you've popped off that plastic cover, you can gain access to the cluster, unscrew it, don't yank it out, once its lose unclip the wiring, which is pretty simple.
Now the cluster is out, your halfway there. Now remove the screws so the clear plastic cover comes off. Now flip the cluster over to the back.
There are four gauges
one for temp
one for fuel
one for tach
one for speed
take the white plastic cover off, and unscrew the speedometer. if you shake it a bit, it might seem a bit loose, maybe not who knows...
anyways, go to the junkyard, find a matching one stick it back in, or if you have a few bucks go and buy one from honda for like 400$
then stick it back in, any average joe can do this. no knowledge required, its all plug and play. clip with wire harness back into the cluster, screw it down firmly. push the plastic vent things back into place. they usually just clip back up. screw that down, push all the little clips back in. light intensity, rear defrost etc..connect the harness for them in the back.
And then go as fast as your car can go, once you reach 195 km/hr that means it works.....so maybe i added the last part. Goodluck

Thanks for the info. I did try and search, but I guess I didn't try hard enough. I'm a guru on some of the RX-7 boards, so I appreciate your help on this.
Today I took everything apart and cleaned contacts, and touched solder joints with a hot iron. After all that, the speedo only works when I "hit" the reset for the trip odometer. So, I guess it's off to the boneyard looking for a replacement thing-a-ma-jig on the back of the gauge.

Yeah i got a new vss too, and then i decided to try it myself, and then when all failed i started banging my fist against it, then it worked, i was so happy. then everyday i had to bang my fist, until one day no matter how much i hit it, it still didn't work, so i ripped that sucker out, took a hammer beat it to pieces and then went to the junkyard.
Great stress relief, and i can tell how fast i'm going.
Cheers

as you might have read, the established problem is the speedometer gauge itself. He has changed the vehicle speed sensor, and had no results, after i said that if you bang on the odometer reset, and the gauge starts you have found your problem.
As for pictures, my accord is a few provinces over. But if you follow my directions its very simple.
just go step by step, and take things apart, very easily put back togther, start with a flat head screw driver, and pop-out the light intensity switch, followed by the rear defrost, and continue as my directions state.... i might be able to find a diagram....one sec
