Default suomy, arai, or shoei helmet?

Looking into getting a new helmet. I'm stuck on which one to get, cause to me they look all nice. I know the suomy is loud, but earplugs will be used. Anyone with either of these helmets...how's the comfort and ventilation? Plus, which one would be lighter?

Suomy spec r-1 extreme dragon

Arai tommy gun

Shoei rf-1000 joust

i have the rf1k joust.

it's comfy, but the venting could be better. When i wear the X11 instead, the difference is like night and day. I've never ridden with a corsair on, and the suomys doesn't fit my head at all, but i really like the x11.

i'll wear the rf1k for colder days or when i'm too lazy to swap visors...but the RF also fogs a lot easier than the X11. the 1 thing i like about the RF vs. the X is that the lining is much softer and better suited for long rides. it's hard to explain, but the Corsair has the same comfy lining.

of the 3 you listed, i'd get the Gun.

I love my rf1000...I can't compare it to any of the others though, as I've never tried them on. I was however thinking of trying out an Arai next year though.

You should probably try them on (if possible) and see which one fits the best. They're not all made the exact same size and it's likely that one will fit the shape of your head better than the others.

Consider a Shark helmet as well.

New to these shores, but a very high quality helmet.

Love my Acid.

Same here. Really happy with the airflow and lightweight of the suomy extreme. The graphics are top notch without going custom as they almost look airbrushed. You can't beat the feel of the lining.

Just beware, it does not offer much of a buffer against wind noise or other sound. So don't buy it if you are looking for the quietest of helmets or don't like riding with earplugs.

I've been trying arai and shoei helmets on, but no one seems to be carrying suomy here in sacramento. I want to actually feel the differences when putting each brand on. I guess that if I can't find anyone carrying suomy around sac, I'll just order the arai one. I mean, the graphics are good and the helmet quaility is top notch.

I got mine in Sacramento. It's been awhile but I think it was through a place called Sac Cycle. They had the best price at the time and instant shipping.

yeah, bear in mind that my sizes for each helmet are:

shoei: L
Arai: XL
Suomy: XL is too small for my head? rather, there's weird pressure on the front of my skull
AGV: yeah right

You dont like AGV ?? They have some really comfortable helmets, my first helmet was a Rossi replica and I can honestly say that the comfort level was right up there with my Shoei and with Suomy.

no no, i think the AGV's are cool, they just don't fit me.

I think i need a XXL, cuz the XL AGV i tried on just wasn't gonna happen?

and then it's a little embarassing to have a XXL head, even if it's not that big?

i dunno. maybe i'm not remembering things precisely but i do remember that the AGV felt like Joe Pesci put my head in a vice

Dont be embarassed to have a big head, that just means more grey matter up there !! I wear a medium, not so much grey matter. LoL

i ahve a soumy and an arai, both make me happy in the pants. my suomy seems to keep out more wind noise, and i like the smaller profile of the arai

I had the Fabrizio extreme Suomy..

the looks were great, but as far as everything else... not so great. It is light though (and noisy as a result).

I'd get the Arai Rx7. Or an Japanese Spec OGK FF4

I have a spec1r and i love it, when it's hot out. But as soon as the temperatures started dipping down to the 60s, my face actually got cold. Its breathes so well you can't stop it. My RF-1000 has a breath guard: it's this mesh fabric that covers your chin and basically creates a separate environment for your face in comparison to what's going on outside the helmet. I believe the x-11 comes with this as well. But it's a feature i've come to get used to and miss on the Suomy. The suomy is also loud. But i wear ear plugs every time and have actually enjoyed the added sound i get when wearing ear plugs in the Suomy. I feel like the plugs just take the edge off, rather tha practically making me deaf in my Rf-1000.
