Default raced a hyundai....and disappointed.

my 02 ex accord coupe 5 spd. has 2500 miles and i raced my friend's 2000 hyundai sonata gls v6 (170hp) auto. i thought i was gonna burn him by about 3 car lengths but i was so disappointed. it was a head to head battle and after quarter mile, it was so equal that we could not distinguish the winner. i had a decent launch and shifted well but i felt like crap to be equal as a hyundai. is this normal? did i just overestimate the accord? could it be that my car is too new to tell the full performance? do other factors play a role in this? please help me or give me opinions. thanks.

well....the only factors affecting your results would be the fact your car is a brick and the fact that he has more hp than you...it amazes me that you kept up with him at that...and your car being new has nothing to do with it either...if anything it is bad to race at that low of milleage...but anyways...it's an accord...so oh well...

6G 5speeds are sloooooowwwww.... sucks to be you.

Well, I shouldn't be so much of a dick. Exactly how much heavier are 6G F23 manuals than 5G F22B1 manuals?

The fastest magazine time ive ever seen for a 5speed vtec accord was for a 6th gen coupe, they got 0-60 in 8.2 and a 1/4 in 16.2 in the 1/4. I believe it was Car and Driver.

Wow, I'm suprised that the difference is that marginal. My best friend has a stock 5speed 6G Accord, and it's substantially slower than mine... yes, mine's modded, but still, I mean substantially slower. If you go the Atlanta meet, you'll meet him and his OEM Accord... how exotic since OEM is so rare these days, right? bleh!

The 6G is not a brick. It's only marginally heavier than the previous 2 iterations and has some extra displacement to boot. There's no OBD III yet either.

16.2 as Nick stated is not that slow. What did your car run when it was totally stock Misa?

All Accords are slow. Every 1990-2002 Accord I4 5-speed will do a low 16 second quarter mile. If anything, I'd say the newer Accords are faster than the old out-of-the-box.

yeah and as another example of magazines being off car and driver quoted my car as running a 16.0@88 but I ran a 15.61@87.99mph totally stock so cars can be quicker than stated in some magazine.

Well the magazines are correct, it's the cars that are inconsistant.
