Jdm H22 v.s. CA Smog Regulations
Hey all - I'm looking to get a BB4 92-96 Prelude, but I have a few questions first:
1. For those of you in CA with jdm H22 swaps, how difficult was it to get your engine smogged (legally)?
2. Will the jdm H22 swap nicely into any 92-96 prelude with little or no modifications?
thanks

"the jdm h22 wont smog, cause it doesnt have an erg on it. "
....................dont speak ever again unless you know what you are talking about. It does too have an EGR. I have a mentioned swap in my Lude and to be honest i dont plan on smogging the car. By the time my Lude comes up for registration next year ill have a different daily driver and the transformation of the prelude will begin in my garage.

Well ethestetically it's the same right? So as long as it's ODBI why wouldn't it pass? Compression ratio's? There's a sh*t load of people in CA with JDM h22's, how are they passing?

They are paying off the smog technicians.

umm, maybe I've just been lucky but I have a jdm h22a in my 96 prelude, AND its obd1. I just got it smogged for the second time. I replaced the sparkplugs, wires and the o2 sensor on the exhaust. As far as getting it smogged I took it to the local smog place, where I dont know anyone or have any "connections" and told them my car was a 95... so far 2 smog checks down and no problems.

Yea it's seems unlikely that it can't at least pass the sniffer without paying Hector a few extra bones. I imagine if you keep your trap shut, and just replace those parts, make-sure all your top-end vacuum crap is hooked up, you should be cool. As long as your not boosting, or bragging about your JDM motor to the smog-tech, what would be the problem?
