i jus put in a DOHC zc tranny in my 88 crx. its sohc zc. the tranny install went perfect. but then when i took it out to test drive it, my brake pedal would sink to the floor when i would brake. it would build pressure if i pumped it and brake fine. but if i didnt brake for a little while like 5 plus seconds, it would sink again. so i pull it in my garage and pop my hood. n what do i See!!!! my Master cylinder is leaking where the brake booster n M cylinder join. it was leaking bad. so my Question is, should i buy a Reman Master cylinder n jus replace that. or do i need any other seals for the booster? if anyone knows what seals i will be needing plz if u can show me on the Diagram. and a part number if possible so i can get my car running sooner.


Cliff notes: zc tranny feels SWEET i was scared to really get on it after my brake pedal sunk to the floor

What kind of track? What do you plan on doing with this car? I would suggest just getting a stock reman MC at the local parts store.

 

Get a reman'd unit from you local autozone/whatever.

I have seen leaking MCs cause brake booster failure as well, well it happened to me anyway.

 

maybe you can just try getting a new master cylinder and seeing if that works.....also whenever I replace a master cylinder I upgrade to a 90-91 Civic Ex one. It is the same price and a direct fit, but also a little bigger.

ok update. got a reman MC from pepboys. put it in and nothing. when i tried to bleed the brakes no fluid would come out. so we decided to bleed all 4 and see what happened. well brake fluid came out of all 4 lines. then we tried to bleed each one and again nothing.

when we took the old MC off the seal inside looked good. cleaned it up and put the new MC on. had a bit of pressure but then it went straight to the floor. it would make a hissing sound like when u blow in a tube or sumthing. all the brake lines were good no leaks. u could feel a lil bit air from were the MC n Brake booster meet. tried bleeding all 4 brakes again for like 20 mins and still had a lil pressure but would go to the floor in a steady motion. my next guess is my Brake booster is bad.

How do u change the Brake booster? can anyone kinda walk me through it or show me how to take it off? i wanted to take it to LACR in plamdale Fri but looks like im not gonna be able too.


so my last resort is the brake booster. there is pressure that builds but then slowly goes to the floor. gona work on it again 2morrow. any ideas?

 

Did you bench bleed the new MC? Like it said in the directions. Sounds like there is a bubble in the MC that is not going to come out with the normal bleed.

Also the correct way to bleed your brakes is not normal either. Start with the right rear then the left front. Continue with the left rear then the right front. It took me a couple of times to get it to where I thought it should be.

So what are you waiting for? Now get back out there and do it right.

we bleed them the right way like u said. and nuthing. maybe the MC is not good its rebuilt. we gona gona bench bleed n bleed normal again n see what happens

 

When I have the option I don't buy reman's I'll pay the extra $20 for new.

Like I said it did take me a couple of times til I was happy with it.
I think I went around the car twice.

 

just a question, is your vacuum line from your booster to manifold connected and with the check valve in it?

 

if the booster was bad or didnt have vacuum your brake pedal would be ROCK HARD. in NO WAY does the brake booster affect hydraulic pressure, it just assist.

take that DEFECTIVE reman master cylinder back and by a NEW one. dont even fool with a reman on a honda.

best info yet. the MC was bad. so i got a OEM honda one. for 189 i jus have to slap the bad boy on and bleed the brakes all around n go to the track Friday that rebuilt piece of crap i swear i was so pissed. but hey its gona be all fixed so im happy

gona put the new MC on 2morrow. got a free bottle of brake fluid n brake parts cleaner and a pack of blue shop towels. explained to the pepboys GM that i was very unsatisfied with the MC. and i wasted brake fliud n towels n parts cleaner. ill let u guys know how everything goes 2morrow
