93 lude performance upgrade.
Hi! I'll start off by saying I know nothing about cars... so bare with me. I just got a '93 prelude from my dad, it had 108,000 miles on it. We took it into the shop for general repair and the dealer said they couldn't replace the timing belt because it would kill the engine. They said the engine only had 1 or 2 months of use left because they found metal shavings in the....fuel... something or another. Sure enough the car died 2 months later. We ended up replacing the engine with a used one from japan. The car seems to be running great now, and the engine is guaranteed for a year. Onto my question.. I'd like to take good care of this car now that it's mine. What scheduled maintenence should be performed on this car and how often? Any owners or previous owners advice on what to watch for etc? Also, if I wanted to start to look into performance upgrades what would be the best place to start if I have a need for speed. Thanks for any and all advice!
Change the oil regularly. That's all I do with mine and it gives me no problems at all. I just crossed 106,000 with mine. If yours died at 108,000 then it was probably poorly taken care of, these things are supposed to last alot longer.
Buy a Honda factory service manual from either helminc.com or ebay (not that Haynes/Chiltons BS) and for performance stuff just research on this website.

change the oil every 3k miles, do a full tune up about uhh i think every 30 or 60k miles? i dont know i just do mine once a year. change the timing belt every 100k miles {EXTREMELY IMPORTANT} and change the trans fluid {auto or manual} about every 30k miles. one of the most neglected things and people wonder why theyre trannys go out all the time. flush the coolant once a year.

well if you use synthetic, changing at 3k oil isn't neccessary since it can last longer. i mean the service manual allows you 7500 miles between oil changes. the timing belt is scheduled for every 60k
