Piston slap
Too much clearance bewteen the piston and cylinder wall. Basically the piston tries to turn sideways in the hole and "slaps" the side of the cylinder wall. JEs commonly have this probably because they run about 3Xs the clearance of the stock pistons (the idea is that under high load engines, the piston will expand more). It generally leads to the side of the piston looking scarred up....depending on how long and how bad it is, the cylinder walls can also get pretty beat up.
I have CP pistions, so is there anyway to fix this other than tearing down the motor and starting over with larger pistons? How much damage can it do, ie will the motor die very quickly or is it not so horrible?
Are you sure its piston slap and not just the normal noise from forged internals? What piston to wall clearance did you have when you installed them? If you indeed have piston slap, it wont take long before the piston/cylinder wall is scarred up pretty badly and you'll start to lose compression in 1 or more cylinders. I wouldnt jump to the conclusion that its piston slap quite so quickly though.

lower rod/stroke ratio engines wear away at the cylinder wallsa over time from the angles thier rods are with the piston , pushing and pulling sideways on the piston while its dragging and pushing it up and down. so after time , when the cylinder get wore , rod goes to pull the piston down and theres a small gap bewteen the cylinder wall and the piston , and the piston slaps into the cylinder wall. the holes get oval , lol.
