Default back pressure question.

i have a 96 b18b in my 96 ek. i had a turbo d16y7 in it before i swapped it out. my exhaust is 2.5" all the way back to a ractive muffler. i have NO cat or test pipe or any thing. is this bad cars runs fine but hesitates a little when i take off and also when iam in like 3rd gear at like 2000 rpms and go to punch it it hesitates as well. but once i get passed like 3500 rpms i pulls like a mo fo.

1) would this problem be due to not enough back pressure?

2) what can i do to fix it?

please help. thanks in advance to any one who helps me

back pressure is for toothless mechanics with no skills with a patch on their shirt that says "sonny"

Your exhaust is too big. Think of it like sound acoustics. Certian diameters/lenghts effect the freqency. Big exhaust = high rpm power, at the cost of low rpm 'grunt'

thanks man one more question i plan on boosting the ls motor in the next week.

my question being should i fix it now or should i wait till i turbo it and leave it a 2.5 straight pipe for the next turbo setup?

turbo dont need any sort of back pressure or anything right?

If you think back pressure is needed, just crush the end of the muffler tip closed a little - that'll up the pressure, right?

Doesn't make much sense, does it? That's because you don't want it. Going to too big an exhaust diameter kills exhaust velocity....and velocity IS something you want on a n/a engine.

When you go turbo, you generally want as big an exhaust as possible since the pressure inside the exhaust manifold (before the turbine) divided by the pressure after the turbine is the pressure that spools the turbo.

As for the hack - junk it. Sorry, but if you read a little about what effects the hack has on your ignition timing, you'd steer clear too.
