Adjusting timing belt....
i have a 92 DA, wiht a stock b18b1 (that came from a 94)...anyway i dont know how to tighten the belt LOL funny i know, but i need any help i can get cause this belt is pissin me off...lmk thanks
Tensioner thats right under the drivers side mount. There is a small hole in the lower cover to stick a 14mm socket in there and loosen it. Generally the spring that does the autotension is worn out and wont provide proper tensioning power. Thus you have to take the upper cover off, get a funny bent up coat hanger and pull the tensioner up manually and then tighten it up.....and/or you can remove the lower cover and push it with a screw driver (though that requires taking the crank pulley off).
Bring the engine to TDC, make sure the cam gears are at TDC and the crank pulley white mark is in alignment with the lower cover pointer. I do this to ensure that the engine is timed properly and hasn't skipped a tooth. Now, rotate the crankpulley counterclockwise three teeth on the cam gears, then loosen the tensionor bolt which will tension the belt, and then retighten the tensionor bolt. This should adjust the belt to proper tension.
Check the deflection on the belt to confirm proper tension. If this method doesn't work, then the post above can be used to manually set the tension on the belt tensionor, but you should replace the tensionor spring.
