Default A few dumb engine removal questions

Im pulling my lsvtec out of my CRX because i blew piston 4 from overboost. Anyway, where are the hoist chain points that i should bolt into when i pull it out? I was told they were obvious, but i've never done this before. Also, how do i remove the half shafts and shift linkage? The shift linkage appears to have a pin i need to tap out, but i'm unsure about the half shafts.

thanks,

Justin

I usually remove the motor from under the car, to me its easier. Yes u have to tap out the pin that connects the shift linkage to the tranny aka(bitchpin). For the halfshaft u can either remove the axle from the half shaft or remove the half shaft and axle all together, its totally up to you. The motor will come out with the half shaft still connected to the block, u just have to remove the axle. Hopefully this helps somewhat.

To remove the half shaft there are (3) bolts holding it to the block, if u take out the bolts the shaft should slide out of the tranny. I'm assuming you removed the axle from the shaft already?

No, i just have everything in the engine bay all set and disconnected, supercharger is off. I just need to get the axles off now, and the bitch pin.

I'd start with the bitch pin first and get that PITA out of the way. When u go under the car and look at the linkage where it connects to the tranny, there should be a little metal cover over the pin, remove that and u can see the pin. The pin is hollow so u will need to use a screw driver or something in that nature that is big enough to push against the pin without going all the way through. I used a drill bit, then hammer the pin out, it might take awhile and it might seem like its not moving. Just hit the **** out of it until it comes out.

To remove the axles u first need to drain the tranny fluid. Then remove the axle nuts(U will need a long breaker bar or powerful air tools to remove the nut)Then remove the 17mm castle nut from where the hub connects to the FLCA. From there u will need a ball joint remover tool to break the ball joint from the FLCA. After u got the hub off the FLCA the axle should slide out of the hub.

Now disconnect the suspension fork that connect to your shock to the FLCA, there should be 14mm bolt on top and a 17mm bolt and nut on the bottom of the fork. After the fork is removed loosen the (3) 12mm or 14mm(i forget which ones) that connect the half shaft to the block, after that the axle and half shaft should slide right out, then repeat for the passenger side which will be easier because it is only an axle.

hope this helps

honestly a hanes or chiltons repair manual will do you wonders . the book is like $15 to $20 and will give you detailed step by steps for those questions . even those its a dif motor it's all very similer just run to autozone or a parts shop . l8er
