it did with the other cylinders..i didnt kno how to do it..my friend did it 4 me..i juss read the numbers..was it not supposed 2 start?
did you ground the plug wire that wasn't being used while you did the test?
For an ordinary compression test check the compression of each cylinder individually you unplug the distributor, prop the throttle wide open, remove all the spark plugs, screw the compression tester and crank the engine ~5 times then read the gauge. There is also a running version of a compression test but it tests the engine as a whole and that doesn't sound like what you were really going for.

you shorted something out. I'm not exactly sure what would short out in a situation like this so I'll let someone better with ignition tell you what to look at, but my guess would be the distributor, although you mentioned the starter which is what makes me question myself.

unplugging the distributor or a source of spark isn't necessary. you do however want to unplug all spark plug wires from the plugs (leave them in dist. cap), and disable the fuel pump so fuel doesn't get sprayed everywhere. otherwise do like ducduc said and do 1 cyl at a time with the throttle wide open.
check if you are getting spark. unplug a spark plug wire, put a spark plug in the end of it, and ground the spark plug to a steel bolt somewhere. get someone to crank the motor and see if the plug sparks.
ok i was getting a spark. i did what MIKEY3000 said..but it still wouldnt turn over..waited 4 my friends to come over nd checked the spark again and now no spark. Still doesnt turn over....checked all the fuses and seemed to be good...could i have blew a relay or suttin?
