Buy based on the particular tire, not the brand. Every brand, including Kumho and Hankook, sells some tires that are excellent and others that aren't.
You don't mention which Hankook tire you're talking about. However, the Kumho SPT is a better buy than any Hankook IMHO, even without taking the rebate into account. If you get the Kumho SPT, don't forget to send in for the $40 rebate within 30 days of your purchase.
(The one Hankook summer tire that's better than the SPT is the Ventus R-S2 Z212, but it's usually more expensive than the SPT and won't last anywhere near as long. And if you're looking for higher performance than the SPT and you don't mind the cost and treadlife issues, then you're better off getting the Falken Azenis RT-615 rather than the Z212.)

the spt on tirerack you guys are refering to is the 64.00 each tire right? someone said it was 67 so I didnt want to buy the wrong tire. Also on the rebate, when i try to print it out it says two pages, is this correct? fill both pages and send them out ?

Your opinion means nothing then. If you did some research or even tried out any of the two tires you would know that the Kumho SPT outperforms most of the Japanese tires out there in the same class and for a good price.

Some Japanese tires are excellent, while others are not. Same thing is true with Korean tires. Heck, even within the same brand, you can find some excellent tires and others that aren't. You need to look at the specific model of tire.

Correct. It's the Kumho Ecsta SPT and the 205/45-16 sells for $64 each before rebate.

They e-mail you a purchase confirmation. Print it out and send it in with the rebate form.

I had the spt's on my 300hp teg and they held pretty decent considereing but they get good traction and their good in the rain too.. theyve lasted a good amount of time too.
I've had my Hancooks on my del Sol for almost a year now... Drove from WI to Vegas and back with them... Very sticky tires for the money, and so far have shown no considerable signs of wear...
My Hancooks have been my favorite all around tire yet...

Hankook, like most brands, makes some tires that are very good, and others that aren't, and some tires that cost more than others.

Yes, but if you're looking for the maximum traction (i.e. "fun") then you're better off with the Azenis RT-615 than the R-S2 Z212.

have the spts on my vw in a 205/40 16 size and they have performed great for what i wanted them for
def not the dry traction of my z212's that i had on my si but good value for the money

So we can summarize nsxtasy's recommendations like this:
The best values are as follows:
Max Performance = Falken Azenis
Max Performance/Best Price = Khumo SPT
Less Performance/All Season = Khumo ASX
Every other tire can be sorted into one of the three performance categories but will usually cost the same or more.
Is this correct?

Well, I think you're boiling it down from other topics, too (since I didn't mention the ASX in this topic, for example). And you're omitting treadlife as a factor, too. But in most sizes, that's fairly accurate regarding my recommendations. (Occasionally, another tire will sell for less in one particular size, or one particular size won't be available, etc.)
I think I would refine it slightly, into something like this:
Max Dry Performance = Falken Azenis RT-615
Max Dry/Wet Performance = Goodyear F1 GS-D3
Max Dry/Wet Performance/Best Value (Price/Treadlife) = Kumho Ecsta SPT
Less Performance/All Season = Kumho Ecsta ASX
And, of course, this doesn't cover track tires, dragstrip tires, winter tires...

That Goodyear tire you mentioned only comes in one 15" size: 195/50.
Too bad.

Yes, it is. (If you're looking for a description of other good options available in summer tires for 195/55-15 and 205/50-15, read this post.)
The original poster is looking for 205/45-16, for which the F1 GS-D3 is indeed available.
