got a question on automatic adjuster and timing belt, need to replace then every 2 to 3 weeks
I have 01 base prelude with the following install Crower stage 2 camshafts 63422-2 crower h22 vtec dual spring & ti retainers 84167, crower premium adjustable cam gears, crower premium stainless steel valves for both intake and exhaust with stock head 97415i/e-8.
the engine run very good but with one problem. need to change the automatic adjuster and timing belt about once a month. they would just die while driving on the road.
pls can any one tell me how can i fix that problem.
thank you

I would say it continues to break because it is not strong enough, and honda fouled up when designing and manufacturing it. Alot of 5th gen (97-01 prelude) owners, myself included, switched over to the 4th gen prelude style manual tensioner. Here is a link read this - https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1420761
it keeps going out because of the additional stress on the timing belt from the aftermarket/stiffer valvesprings
^^^^^^ yes, thats also true....
if you really want to keep the auto tensioner....i suggest you look up the greddy extreme timing belt and balancer belt package....they are made to withstand peformance engines, unlike the crappy autozone ones or the OEM ones
on a side note, check and see if your timing belt is being put in correctly because once that automatic adjuster tightens, if the timing belt is crooked or out of place, it could wear out the edges of it...(true story, its happening to me
