alright, i have an 00 civic. And when im starting out at low rpm's in first and second gear there is almost like a crackling sound, not really loud but noticable. any ideas?? also, when car is in nuetral and just reving a tad it sounds like water is flowing somewhere??? anything helps. thanks.

 

where does the sound come from? Head, block, tranny?
is the noise random or is in related to rpm and constant?

crackling is from around 1-2.5 thousand rpm's and sounds from like almost under my shifter. water sounds like its from behind the head or in the middle of the head and block closer to the steering wheel.

 

my car does this too at WOT under low load, I have no idea what it is or what is causing it, but there is no performance change that I can detect

 

when you say crakling? are you talking sparks? metal on metal tinging?
and is there fluid leaking anywhere?

 

Quite possibly spark knock. Take it to someone in your area who can give you a decent diagnosis without charging you an arm and a leg. If you're spark-knocking you need to get it taken care of. If it's something else, another driver or passenger should be able to help identify it.

 

would it be an exaust gasket "flapping" around in 2 bent flanges???

 

now do you think a local honda dealer would be able to check it out?
