So I just picked up a 92 cx with a full gsr swap that was done at intec in Seattle. I got it for a good price and needs some work. One of the problems is that under any acceleration the front end picks up a bad vibration. Starting from a light, in 1st it doesnt do it , but as soon as i hit 2nd and up it shakes. Once im ata constant spped it goes away but even in like 4th, just rolling into the throttle it comes back. Ive done alot of searching and most guys are complaining of bad axles. Or there is a descrapency of what intermediate shaft to run. What axles should be on the car for the swap? does it just use the full gsr axles? If i ordered new axles what do i need to tell the auto parts store i need axles out of? Any help on this is greatly appreciated ASAP!

Also its not motor mounts or tires as its had a couple of different sets of tires and using the full hasport mount kit and shift linkage.

 

Ok, so i reached down by alternator from the top and grabbed the joint where the intermediate meets the inner cv joint and could wobble it around pretty good so im assuming thats the problem. So i just need to know what to tell the auto parts store for what i need for an axle. Just a 94+ gsr, del sol dohc vtec axle, or ls, or maybe a 99-00 si? Anyone? Sorry for such a newb question.

 

You just need normal GSR axles as long as you're using a normal GSR intermediate shaft - which I assume is the case since no one in his right mind would screw around with that.

Make sure to check everything on the intermediate shaft before you go buying more axles. If the bearings in the IS are shot, that could also be killing your straight-line stability.

 

ya i checked for play on that and didnt feel anything abnormal. It was just the connection to the intermediate was wobbly and loose.

 

check your mounts but mostly likely an axle related problem. I had the same problem your having before.

btw i dont think any play around the intermediate area is ok. fix that and the vibration should be gone. let us know how it goes.

Got the problem fixed. it was the original 95 gsr axles and for some reason the drivers axle was worn out. So i had an axle setup out of a 91 integra so i had to rebuild one of the joints and put it all on and sure enough.... no more vibration.

I have a similar problem. I had the shake with the gsr axles and then i tried si axles and the shaking became less noticable. But its still there.
