You could try James Evans of JE Imports.

Good luck..

if you are going with obd1 instead, try:

http://webpages.charter.net/esmyers/

he has a vouch thread at:

http://www.ef-honda.com/main/viewtopic.php?t=24302

i have dealt with him on parts and he is a very standup guy. i'd at least talk to him about your situation.

non-vtec? pull the speed sensor off the tranny. governor = bye bye! of course, then you'll get a CEL. if you're good with electronics you could put a resistor in line with the speed sensor. cut the output voltage in half and the ecu will think you're going 60mph instead of 120mph. (that's probably not entirely accurate, but you get the point)

No, the VSS outputs a pulse, the ECU counts pulses over a period of time to get vehicle speed. By depriving the ECU of a vehicle speed reference, it can't adjust fueling and ignition based on what gear you are in.

At any rate, I have never seen a USDM ECU with a speed limiter. Perhaps your SOHC non VTEC Civic is simply drag limited.

as said above,if it's a US ECU,it's not speed limited.even it is a JDM ECU,i think the cutoff is around 120MPHish?the DX should have a hard time going that fast on the straights of any track anyway.
if you need to remove a speed governor, there are a few devices for just that purpose.Apex,Greddy and HKS all make these devices from what i remember.look for "speed cut defencer".

I've never hit a speed limiter on my 99 DX. The fastest I've been was between 115 and 120 on Cali Speedway using the NASCAR turns 1 & 2, so I doubt it will be an issue at most tracks.

oh, its an issue alright.

Roebling road front straight just past start/finish line im getting the speed limiter in 4th and 5th gear. right at indicated 120mph it will cut out, thats with the 13x8's. i thought it might be rev limiter so i tried 5th and it still does it. it has a speed gov. trust me when i dynoed it, it cut at 124mph. im assumming the speedo is off when i have those wheels on.

that is a pretty safe assumption. i'd guess somewhere around 105mph actual for your 120 indicated. two options...

1) run a taller tire when doing track days
2) do the OBD1/OBD2 conversion, use a p28 ecu and just disable the vtec portion. it's legal for SP. converting back for state inspection should be all of unplugging the conversion harness and ecu and plugging in the stock one.

It cant be off that much... im doing 100-105 at the exit of turn 8 before the straight. top of 3rd gear 6600 rpms is roughly 90-95 mph ,,im in 4th before the entrance to turn 8 im runnin 4th all the way out on the straight untill the governor at 124mph.

with the 15's it takes the car much longer to get through 4th down the straight=slower time

The speed the ECU sees is exactly the same speed the speedometer shows. The signal from the speed sensor goes to both. Tire diameter will not affect at what "indicated" speed the speed limiter kicks in. And for the record, my 98 CX had a speed limiter at 108 mph.

if the DX ratios for a 98 are similar to those of a 92-95 dx, my calculator has 3rd gear speed at 6600rpm with a 225/45/15 at roughly 87mph. an indicated 124mph would equate to roughly 112mph. and all that assumes your factory speedo is even close to accurate, which it probably isn't. figure on 2-5% variance, or another 2-6mph off at 124mph.

jaker, the speedo and ecu see the same speed, but the actual road speed will vary if you change the tire diameter. so if the governor hits at 124mph and you have a really small diameter tire on the car, you might actually be going only 110mph when the limiter kicks in. the ecu doesn't know better, it 'thinks' the car is going faster then it really is.

zul8r, are you roadracing with this car, or is it an autocross car that you are doing DE's with? if it's the latter, who cares if your lap times go up? there is no trophy, and supposed to be no lap timing.

road race yes, auto-X yes, DE's yes

here is the dyno sheet.. with the stock wheels. Fourth Gear Pull

i don't know too much about this stuff but why don't you just socket a OBD1 dx ecu and put a throw the car on the dyno.

I don't see why a ECU company wouldn't do it for you.

I'd imagine that whatever class you're road racing and autoxing in would have some rules about changing the ECU. What classes are you racing in?
