Default GSR vs. Si OBX LSD

I noticed that they sell RS/LS/GS and Si OBX LSDs for about $100 less than the GSR LSD. On Ebay, I see the GSR LSD also labeled as an ITR LSD, which as far as I know is exactly the same as Si besides the OEM LSD. So, is the ebay seller wrong, and what is the difference that makes the GSR one more expensive? I read that it's bigger than the RS/LS/GS/Si one, but why would that be if they are nearly identical trannies? TIA for help.

Here's the link to the ebay LSD BTW: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

*edit - One more question, what do people do when they have a bunch of stripped bolts on the LSD?

i'd start with comparing part numbers, because i noticed the same thing when i was buying mine. and as much research as ive done they all had the same part number when it came to a b-series tranny. i ended up buying the one listed for an si tranny and put it in my gsr tranny, it went in no problem, i saved like 85 bucks and the only challange was shiming it for the right clearance.

Wow sweet that's what I was hoping, and thinking, but wasn't sure. I'll try to find some part numbers for the two if I can also.

BTW did you take apart, clean, and reassemble your LSD before putting it in or did you just put it in how you got it?

And was the shimming the same as if it was a GSR LSD, or did it have a bigger gap you had to fill?

no i didnt take the diff apart, if i did i wouldve been able to put it back together. i just put it in as it came.
as far as shimming it, i hated it. its a real pain in the ***!.... its pretty much a big guessing game regardless if you have a gsr or an si tranny.
after installing diff with all necessary bearings, i measured the gap. unfortunately it was way beyond spec, so i had to get a smaller shim. it turned out the clearance wasnt big enough.

Hmm are you 100% sure you got an Si diff? I PMed b18bturbo and here's what he said:

Hatch_R (2:45 AM 11/16/2006): Hey I saw that you said that you sell the OBX LSDs and I was wondering, are there different part numbers between the RS/LS/GS/Si LSD and the GSR LSD? Is there a difference at all between the two, because I always see the GSR LSD advertised as specific for the GSR, and about $50 or $100 more than the one for all the others.

b18bturbo (8:21 AM 11/16/2006): yes they are different GSR and type r uses a different ring gear than the b16a/ls

you can put a itr diff if you use a gsr ringr and counter shaft, if you had a gsr you can use either diff as long as you get the ring gear that matches the diff(4.4 14bolt(itr/gsr) or 10 bolt(b16))

Hmm well if that is the case then it'd be cheaper to just go with the GSR diff and not mess with the ring gear (which costs $155 on barancoacuraparts.com!). I found someone selling these LSDs on ebay and the difference between Si and GSR is only about $30-40.

What do you mean the gaps were messed up? What gaps? And did you change out the ring gear?

the actual size of the diff casing is diffrent between the LS/RS/SI diff vs. the GSR/ITR diff.

make sure you get the correct one or you will be in for a big suprise when you go to bolt the ring gear onto it.
