d16y7 exhaust HELP!!!!
Ok I have a d16y7 where the cat is attached to the exhaust manifold, and there's a crack in the manifold so I need a replacement.
I need to find headers and a cat that are legal for use in California. Not too expensive. Any recommendations?
I can't really spend a lot of cash.
And if I ran a stock muffler with aftermarket headers and cat, would it cause my engine to choke a bit? Thx in advance.

First off, your title of this thread sucks. Read the rules.
Second of all, search. We've discussed this.
Third of all, go to a dealership, ask em about it.
Get on google, if your car is a 96 or 97, you have a 150,000 mile / 14 year warranty on that header of yours. Happened to my 96 at 127k, the cat converter took a ****. Dealer gave me a new one FREE.
Check for something called a "technical service bulletin," or TSB.

If you want to pass smog you must keep it stock. There are no legal headers for this motor and believe me I know I have the same motor. Thats why its an LEV. You can use EX headers although you will have to leave the CAT and the second O2 sensor off, and youll throw a check light. This setup is hella loud I don't recomend it in california. If you run OBD 1 ecu the code will not pop up.
Your only other decent bet is almost an entire EX exhaust system. Like he said you can't change headers, you'd need a header, then an EX cat converter, and because the y7 downpipe is ALL the way to the muffler, youd need a EX style downpipe as well. This is why most of us with y7 motors go with big intakes and big IMs to overcompensate for the crap exhaust, cause you have to do the entire exhaust at once, not in pieces.
You could do the ex exhaust although I think if the smog ref would not like this set-up and would fail you on the visual inspection especially in california. Thats if he knows what hes doing.
I would just get the whole D16y8 ex motor they're pretty cheap. Unless you can afford a GSR motor
But hey that my opinion.
