HELP me pass smog
How's it going everyone
So i just got this 1995 Honda civic CX and im planning on swaping the motor for a k20 so i figured that i should smog the car while its got the stock engine and easy (so i wonte have to worrie about it for 2 years)
and i have to so i can register it in my name anyway
well i went to the smog shop and they test it............FAILED
they tell me i need a new head......or a new cat.......and the CX CAT costs alot because it is part of the exhaust manifold........so i say can i just add another one under the car that way i'll have two CAT's.......he says that it should pass if i do that......ok so i got have another one added
I go back to test it again and.............FAILED again
now he said it could be the MAP sensor or the o2 sensor
i passed the high speed part of the test but not the low speed
HELP ME pass this thing so i can finally take it out and drop that k20 in

Failing NOx in smog checks for Hondacars is a very commen problem in pre OBD2 cars as they are nortorious lean burners and fuel is not refined to meet their air/fuel ratios. Anything you can do to lower combustion chamber temperatures will help. Larger injectors, Programable PCM, What ever works!

Good luck dude!

how many miles on the engine. if there's a lot of carbon build up on your pistons it'll raise your compression ratio a little which will cause higher combustions which causes NOx. try running some sort of injection/combustion chamber cleaner.
I feel SO sorry for you guys in Cali. I have a b18 in my civic and i wouldn't even think twice about not passing emissions. This will make you pass for sure, move
Seriously though, I would try the injector/fuel cleaner, check the spark plugs (might help), air filter, cat. Thats what I have done in the past.

question after u put the second cat on. did u heat up the engine real hot and u should able to smell that new cat smell? Try heating up the engine for few mins above 1500rpm then do smog right away. don't shut down the engine.
double check on the timing and whether u have enough coolant in the system.
