Check engine light confusion

Default Check engine light confusion

ok im really confused, my car just all of a sudden started idiling all funky it jumps up and down between 1000 & 1500 rpm. IACV im sure cause a did a little searching. but my problem is when i went to check the code i turn the igniton on and get ready to count and the check engine light just stays on. It doesn't do it's little flashing it just stays lit up. please help....

i have a 95 hatch w/b16. and it's not like im checking it wrong or anything i have done it plenty of times before.

yea like said i have done it before, it's just after i jump the little blue plug and turn the ignition on instead of the light coming and and then turning off and beginning its light sequence, it just comes on and stays on.

well i don't know ...maybe the plug is scewed or..i would check you iacv first try getting you car to stop surging then come back to that sorry man...you use any kind of e-man

are you even throwing a code?

if you are not throwing a code then jumping it will make it just stay on...means no codes.

you can have an erratic idle without a CEL

no just using factory ecu. how do i check the IACV. If anyone else knows what may be going on with the check engine light please let me know

it will also have a solid light if youre using a jumper that doesnt conduct the current (like some paperclips); if youre using that, try a thin piece of wire or a prong connector

is the cel on when the car is running (with no jumper)???

Ya that's just it the CEL is on when im driving and my car is idiling all retarded. But when i go to check the cel and jump the little plug it just stays stays lit up like i have no codes being thrown...
