Default Advancing timing

I was thinking of advancing the timing on my GSR, I have the Helms manual so I think that shows how to do it...

Is there anything I have to be careful of? Can I damage my engine by doing it? What kind of gains can I expect?

just be sure not to advance it too much -- detonation is bad.

i didnt know that helms told how do it -- what does it say to do?

If you are going to advance it most people would agree with me to advance it 18 degrees. Yes if you go to far you can start to damage the engine because of detonation. A friend of mine said that he got about 3-5 horses difference by advancing

Heh heh. Though so

Now all I need is a timing gun.

BTW, how do you tell if you are getting detonation?

Do you have a timing light? I just brought it to a mechanic and they did it for like $10. I'm at 18 degrees as well and noticed a nice bump in power.
