Default a6 or y8 with vitaras

I have a y8 and a stock a6. I am going to keep my car obd0 and run turbo edit. Shooting for a realistic 300 hp. I've read all the timing and oil pump issues with the y8. I've also read how the a6 is the best d-series bottomend and vtec is worthless on SOHC. I'm on a tight budget so i was planning on using the o-so-famous eagle rods/vitara combo. I want to use the a6 with vitaras but it gets like 7.5 cr which is way too low. Even if there was a thicker headgasket, it still wouldn't get it high enough. Waht about the y8 bottom end with the a6 head. Kinda wanting to get away from vtec. What your opinions?

i may be mistaken, its been awhile since ive looked at CR calcs for these motors....but the y8/a6 combo will yeild the same CR as the a6 with vitaras...

the d16 CR is made up of head and piston differences, so swapping a bottom end will do nothing for CR...both blocks have the same deck height.

a thicker headgasket yields a LOWER cr

put the vitaras in the a6 and use a y8 headgasket or shave the head to bring the compression up
