Default Hood Tilt

Im just looking for answers here. Does the hood tilt mod actually do anything helpful, or does it do harm? Or it doesnt do either of those two? Again, im only looking for answers if it does anything, not how it looks, or w/e.

perhaps more helpful to a car with turbo were heat is a factor.. generally its a useless mod.. only harm that could be done i imagine is not using long enough screws or something and the hood flying off.

I was curious also, I see it in magazines all the time and dont see the point. To me its along the lines of the tow hooks and saying everything JDM is cool.

I know people who use hood support struts use them but I have also seen the washer and longer bolt thing.

Hood tilt does absolutely nothing except show that your hood does not sit properly and you want to be so "JDM". It does not vent any heat what so ever.

Threads like this make me want to go back in time and punch your mother in the stomach before your were born.

BESIDES LOOKING EXTREMELY GAY, LIKE YOU WERE IN AN ACCIDENT AND YOUR **** DOESN'T LINE UP RIGHT.

This tilt hood thing doesn't really work that well. Cold air from outside is pushed into the engine bay. Really we want the opposite, heat being REMOVED from the engine bay.

Who started the whole hood tilt is JDM thing? They need to be donkey punched in the throat. I've seen it a few times but to me it just looks like your **** is fucked up. That's just my opinon though. It will never be done to my car. Wouldn't that also send your hood through your windshield if someone got into a collision head on? Just wondering.

it brings cool outside air into the engine bay, if you think that's BS then get in your car, tilt the sunroof up, stick your hand up there and see if you feel air, and it cools down the cabin, same thing happens with the engine bay

Actually, it is the movement of the heat from inside the cabin of your car to the outside that causes the effect.

well, regardless of heat leaving, cool air entering...both benefit, so its functional

So for this not to work, it would have to be cold under your hood...?

This will lower engine compartment temps. Anyone who says it wont...its common sence. Not saying its worth it imo.

Read up on airflow sometime if you have the chance.

Over the hood and the top of the car there is a high pressure zone created which will pull air from the lower pressure zone (inside the engine bay or passenger cabin)

At the back of the hood near the windshield, the same thing is NOT happening.

Ace hardware elongated 10mm bolts with 8 washers underneath won't hold those lateral forces nearly as well as stock bolts would with no washers.

so an opening in the rear of the hood has no air going in or out?

I don't know how to explain it with the right technical words but where the hood meets windshield, there is not a higher pressure zone outside the car (I think it has to do with aerodynamics, how the curvature of the car changes there), so air isn't pulled out, it is pushed in, and not that well by the way.

All the D1 drift cars have vents in their hood for a reason. Notice none of them rock the tilted hood?
