MY CAR IS HOT LIKE A HELL...
I have a Honda Civic 1997 LX Sedan; D16Y7 Engine; Manual Transmission.
I have an overheating problem, but NOT way up to the red line, only between the middle line and Red line(3/4).
Here's what going on.... Driving on the side streets(i mean those two lane roads), the temperature is fine; but when i hit the highways and drive above 60mph OR when engine is revving at about 3000rpm & above, the temperature starts to rise a little bit, when i slow down & pull over, naturally no air is coming through the front grille, temp will reach up to 3/4, from then on I will make an exit and take the side streets and have to turn OFF the engine every stop light because it continues to get hot.
Another thing is when its overheating and opened the hood, the fan is not working. When I turned OFF the engine and start again, it will work right away. Then after a few blocks, temp will rise again, and the fan is not working again, so i have to do the same process(OFF & ON) again & again till i reach my destination. That's why i turned OFF and ON the engine every stop light. By the way, which air direction the radiator fan should go? towards the engine block or towards the radiator core??? How about the condenser fan?
Its another story when i drive on the side streets from the beginning all the way through my destination, it will NOT overheat.(as long as i don't revs up to 3000rpm & above).
The following parts have been changed with Honda OEM parts:
* Thermostat
* Temperature sensor
* All cooling and heating hoses
* Radiator
* Radiator Fan
* Radiator Fan Motor
* Radiator Cap
All fuses & Relays(underdash & underhood) has been checked and they were all good.
Ignition timing has been checked and it was fine.
Alternator has been checked and it was good.
Battery is new (3 weeks old).
Head gasket is the least thing i consider because a pressure test has been done and the pressure is NOT dropping nor moving down.
Engine oil color is normal.
NO white smoke coming out from the tail pipe.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM??? PLEASE HELPPPP

this is a bandaid but will not correct the cause of the problem.
One sign of a bad head gasket is to look at your coolant. if there are traces of oil in it. My 96 HX was doing the exact same thing, no white smoke, clean oil, but I could see the oil film on the surface of the coolant. Pulled the head and the head gasket was broken between the #2 and #3 cyls. Replaced the HG and it has not overheated since.
my only other guess is you could have air bubbles in your coolant, try bleeding the system if you have not already.

yeah could be a HG, unfortunately just because compression numbers are good or decent, doesn't mean you can rule the HG out. I had lifted my head on the dyno and it overheated on the way home. Keeping the head on full blast was enough to keep it cool till i got home and shut off. The next morning it was fine and didn't over heat for weeks, but my coolant level was all over the place, sometimes empty, sometimes overfilling, plus it would burn a little coolant at idle and at WOT.
Make sure you burp the system really good and try driving with your heat on full blast and turn your A/C on. This way you'll have coolant flowing through your heater core and the A/C evaporator will blow cold air through it. Just try it, it shuold be a decent band aid till you can fix the real problem.
oh also, the fan is controlled by a different temperature sensor. Actually i believe our cars have three, one is the actual ECT sensor for the computer, another one is for the gauge, and one is for the fan

Honestly... I've never done such this headgasket replacement before, for i might screw up the car, tho i have the Honda Service Mechanic Manual. I've been in Honda Service Ctr and they said it will cost me $2,000!!!, local street mechanic("mickey mouse" is how we call them) is about $900 - $1000. Not sure if they do know what they're doin. I do it myself... what are the things i need to look and check into as soon as the HG was access, what i mean is... what are the other things that may get damaged also if the HG was blown or bad. Or anybody from Miami? or any close cities? who will charge me less? preferably with experience in doing this thing.

You d*mn right Teal! And it smells gas! You think the damage is too bad??? Let me know man if its worth repairing or just get a B Series and do the swap instead(if possible).

i see a lil oil in my coolant. my headgasket is going. exact same thing happens now as yours. but mine does it every once in a while

I did the airbleeding today, and run the car 100 miles(back & forth) in the highway. It was fine and no overheating occur, Thanks a lot to all the effort and help guys. Although, a little oil in the coolant reserve is another story

Call it stupid... It's worth replacing them, as hoses are crispy and radiator is rusting. It would be more stupid seeing those in such condition and have done nothing.
When people is assuring someone and gave their "guaranteed" diagnosis WITHOUT even asking other possible things if it has been done or not yet, Nor asking for maintenance history, He is "TWICE" as stupid who's asking for the diagnosis.

I would have figured since the water pump is the most important piece of the cooling system, you would have listed that in your first post rather than waiting until it was suggested to tell us it had been changed. I also assumed - silly me...thinking anyone on this site has the intelligence to do anything correctly - that you would have taken care to bleed all the air out of the system when you installed any number of the components listed in your first post.
It's kind of like saying "my car won't start!" and then listing, "grounds, alternator, starter, etc." in your list but leaving out the battery.
